Information Technology Director establishes, plans, and administers the overall policies and goals for the information technology department. Analyzes the needs of different departments and determines ways to meet business objectives by modifying existing or developing new information processing systems. Being an Information Technology Director manages the research and selection of IT equipment, applications, and supplies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Information Technology Director typically reports to a CIO. The Information Technology Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be an Information Technology Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • Key Responsibilities:

    1. Work with design and enhancements of the ERP system.
    2. Align the company’s technology resources with the organization’s short- and long-term goals of the organization.
    3. Ensuring that IT department strategies and processes provide appropriate support to company-wide goals.
    4. Stay abreast of emerging technologies that can improve company’s products, services or company’s proficiency and efficiency to maximize profitability.
    5. Identify emerging information technologies to be analyzed, assimilated, and integrated within the organization.
    6. Work with internal function leaders to identify barriers to functional success or abilities that can be achieved through technology enablement and integration.
    7. Prioritize opportunities in enhancements based on impact to the organization’s financial success or competitive advantage. Evaluate and prioritize opportunities based the return to the organization (can discern critical-to-have abilities and projects versus nice-to-have with less bottom-line impact).
    8. Pitch the value of technology projects to executive leadership team, clearly outlining the cost (direct, indirect and opportunity costs), risk potential and value of the projects based on the impact it would have to the financial success, profitability, cost avoidance or ability to achieve organizational objectives.
    9. Scan the technology suite and system holistically and determine and document the business requirements needed.
    10. Create and oversee high-level KPIs for IT department.
    11. Identify vulnerable areas within the IT support structure and set up and determine mitigating measures to shore up those key areas.
    12. Work with leadership to organize resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals.
    13. Management of team in all aspects of human resources including interviewing, constructive discipline, performance reviews, and termination recommendations.
    14. Create and implement IT policies, protocols and standards.
    15. Other duties as assigned.

     

    Must haves:

    • Based in Memphis, TN.
    • Experience managing an ERP system.
    • Experience managing a team, even if small.
    • Ability to evaluate a team for key skills needed based on structure of IT’s infrastructure, systems, processes, and future needs.
    • Experience communicating with other executives regarding costs, value and risk-potential of new IT projects.
    • Breadth of experience to understand the macro function of technology within the industry and company.
    • Deep experience and process logic to identify the micro challenges that arise - ability to pinpoint and diagnose precise issues when presented, where to find them and how to correct them through programmers, additional process discipline or technology tools.
    • Exceptional process logic and ability to understand the full system and what levers impact other levers.
    • Experience working with upper-level leadership to develop and implement department goals.
    • Experience working within the wholesale distribution industry.

    • Exceptional Communication Skills – the ability to bring people along, story telling to move an audience to action or relay critical information to bring about mutual understanding. 
    • Customer/Employee Relations Skills – Strong focus on employee engagement and retention. 
    • Delegation Skills – the ability to know how to fix or do a task, but the ability to assign it the right group or person.  Strong ability to ensure the work is done at the right level, but with touch points to ensure they are done.
    • Diplomacy in Difficult Situations – ability to “play ball” within the organization and outside.  Open to finding mutual wins and common ground.  Ability to maintain emotional balance even in the most pressing of challenging situations.
    • Flexible to Change – always open to reposition based on evolving information, industry trends and business direction without losing momentum or the ability to make an impact.  Able to lead a team through transition, understand when a team is change saturated and reengage them to keep them productive and sharp.
    • Wide Vision of the industry (distribution & technology) – constantly in tune with what competitors are doing, how we keep pace or stay ahead, understand how the technology landscape is changing within the industry, and keep the IT function as a pivotal part of our competitive advantage and a reason to keep Power & Tel as a partner. 
    • Leadership Skills – ability to gain followership from the team, bring people along on the journey, believe in the future of the group and impact it can make while holding the team accountable.  Ability to know who and when to stretch roles and people to maximize productivity and impact. 
    • Exceptional Problem-Solving Skills – ability to quickly assess situations and make decisions without falling into analysis paralysis.  Ability to make decisions that in line with culture, bandwidth, and takes the right risks based on known information.
    • Strong Negotiation Skills – with ability to bring internal customers along and negotiate priorities based on impact.
    • Strong Organization Skills – ability to organize team tasks into measurable buckets, align work to teams and individuals, and keep all competing demands moving forward without losing momentum through strong planning and organizing.

     

    Nice to haves:

    • Experience working in cloud-based and on-premise IT structure. 
    • Contract negotiations with IT vendors, contractors and service providers.
    • Experience overseeing technology budget development and management.

     

    Educational Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Information technology or equivalent work experience.
    • 10 year experience in IT process management, application development, change management, data/cyber security and business continuity. 
    • A background in the telecommunications industry is preferred, but not required.  A background in wholesale distribution is required.
