    We currently have an opening for an IT Project Manager II.
    The position is designated Statutory Exempt and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act.


    The primary responsibility of the IT Project Manager II involves planning and coordinating high-risk, complex information technology projects and/or programs. Assignments may vary from managing small lesser technology projects to managing extremely complex projects. This position reports to an IT Project Portfolio Manager.

    Duties include, but are not limited, to:
    • Assigned projects including scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, communication, risk, procurement, stakeholder change, and vendor management.
    • Direct the work of other project members and for managing team activities to assure the best use of time and resources to meet project-defined objectives and deliverables.
    • Manage projects of multiple technology disciplines (i.e. hardware, software, applications development, network infrastructure etc.) and/or significant business process reengineering efforts.

    Selected candidate must reside in North Carolina at time of hire.

    NC Department of Information Technology – Transportation (NCDIT-T) provides the full spectrum of formation processing services and support for information resource management in the Department of Transportation (DOT). The Project Management Office (PMO) promotes commonality and best practices of Project Management, IT Procurement, and System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) disciplines.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies


    • Project Manager experience in managing, organizing, and/or leading large, complex IT projects and programs using project management best practices for developing and managing projects
    • Demonstrated Experience working with the following Project Management Methodologies: Waterfall, Agile, and/or Hybrid
    • Demonstrated experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC)
    The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
    • Experience with estimation methodologies, earned value calculations, and Risk Assessment/Mitigation Plan (RAMP).
    • Experience procuring IT solutions and/or technical or professional services to meet business requirements

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

    Some state job postings say you can qualify by an ‘equivalent combination of education and experience.’ If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.     Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related IT field, business administration, project management, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in IT project management or technical project management related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
