Instructor - Biology teaches courses in the discipline area of biology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Biology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Biology typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.   • Job Summary:

    Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, Science, this instructor may teach such courses as: Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Anatomy & Physiology and Biology.  Courses may include a variety of delivery methods including on-campus, off-campus, evening, online synchronous, asynchronous, and using Zoom technology.  This position will be responsible to teach courses for concurrent enrollment high school students at assigned location(s) and on the Ottumwa and Centerville campuses as needed.

    Minimum Job Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in biological sciences required.
    • College level teaching experience is preferred.
    • Must relate well to students and colleagues.
    • Must demonstrate a high degree of competency within the discipline to be taught.
    • Travel will be required.

    Work Performed:

    • Teach courses in accordance with objectives of the course outline as set forth by the division using a variety of instructional methods and technologies that facilitates learning for all students.
    • Organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
    • Develop and maintain current course syllabi/outlines for assigned courses.
    • Assist in planning and carrying out studies and surveys.
    • Maintain cooperative relationships with professional personnel, local organizations, public officials and other interested people.
    • Assist in maintaining public relations with the local community and take part in community relations when possible.
    • Actively participate in program promotion and recruitment of students, provide academic advising as needed, and assist in the placement and follow up of graduates.
    • Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community.
    • Meet all assigned classes and office commitments as scheduled.
    • Attend and participate in all scheduled faculty meetings unless excused by the division dean.
    • Emphasize to students the importance of prompt and regular class attendance.
    • Measure and evaluate student progress and maintain accurate grade computations.Prepare and submit accurate grade reports as requested.
    • Submit to appropriate resources reports on all students who may be in need of counsel.
    • Serve actively on any committee to which appointed.
    • Keep accurate inventories of equipment and supplies and submit requisitions for needed materials.
    • Promptly report repairs needed for the classroom and equipment.
    • Stay up to date with trends in the field and update program curriculum and equipment as appropriate to improve student learning.
    • Assist in the program evaluation procedure.
    • Assist in developing course level and program level assessment tools. Collect and enter assessment data into the college SPOL software program.
    • Meet the standards of the college’s Quality Faculty Plan.
    • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
    • Other duties as may be assigned.
