Being an Instructor - History provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - History typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research. The University of Virginia's College at Wise seeks to fill a one-year, non-tenure track position at the rank of instructor for the academic year 2024-25. The successful candidate will be required to teach Western Civilization survey courses as well as upper-level courses focusing on Atlantic slavery and/or the African diaspora.
Qualifications include an M.A. in History at the time of the appointment, with ABD or Ph.D. preferred. Additional qualifications include a record or evidence of effective undergraduate teaching, including teaching Western Civilization, as well as a strong commitment to liberal arts/humanities.
The University of Virginia's College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia, is a four-year public liberal arts college located in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. Wise is a small town in a rural coal-mining region with a rich labor and environmental history.
