Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.   • Job Summary

    Tulsa Community College is seeking qualified adjunct instructors for the 2023-2024 school year and welcomes applicants at any time. Adjunct instructors are hired within their respective fields for one or more semesters based on the needs of their respective academic school.

    A teaching assignment may or may not be available as of this date. Potential adjunct faculty will be contacted as teaching assignments become available.

    Salary based on course contract.

    Essential Duties

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    TEACHING

    • Teaches in a professional manner that promotes general education and discipline goals as defined by the College.
    • Maintains the principle of academic freedom, as defined by the American Association of University Professors, in highest regard and practice.
    • Maintains high academic standards.
    • Exhibits competence and knowledge in the discipline.
    • Teaches in a manner that fosters and promotes the Institutional Learning Outcomes as defined by the College.
    • Shows application of subject to related disciplines.
    • Offers well-planned, organized instruction to maximize student learning and student retention.
    • Uses teaching strategies appropriate to the discipline and in coordination with department guidelines.
    • Modifies instructional methods and strategies when necessary to address diverse student needs and assessment data.
    • Chooses among available and appropriate instructional technologies.
    • Employs fair and discipline-appropriate evaluation techniques to measure student achievement.
    • Returns evaluated student work in a timely fashion appropriate to the discipline.
    • Meets each class as scheduled by the College, begins and ends classes on time as scheduled by the College and reports any exceptions to the appropriate supervisor.
    • Contributes to discipline and/or program curriculum development as requested.

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    • Remains current in discipline, both contextually and technologically.
    • Participates in required professional development activities contributing to the educational goals of the College.
    • Completes mandatory College compliance training.

    GENERAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE

    • Meets all requirements for adjunct faculty members as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Faculty Handbook.
    • Uses the TCC Syllabus Template and/or other discipline guidelines to develop a clear, unambiguous syllabus with well-articulated learning outcomes as determined by full-time faculty in the discipline.
    • Maintains accurate scholastic records.
    • Submits grade records and final grade reports to designated administrative office(s) according to institutional guidelines and within stated deadlines.
    • Keeps all student information confidential and secure in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
    • Attends meetings and events as required by College administration, including training and orientation for new adjuncts.
    • Makes timely responses to information requests from appropriate College administrators.
    • Responds to student requests in a timely manner.
    • Participates in TCC's assessment program.
    • If requested, contributes to College development, planning, and budgeting processes through appropriate institutional channels.
    Minimum Qualifications

    University Parallel:

    • Master's degree in the discipline or subfield in which an individual is teaching, or
    • Master's degree and a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline or subfield in which an individual is teaching.

    Developmental Education:

    • Appropriate credentials for faculty teaching in developmental education areas are determined by discipline

    Technical/Occupational (Workforce Development):

    • The same as those listed for university parallel, or
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, appropriate state and/or national licensure or certification in the discipline or subfield in which he or she is teaching, and three years of work experience in the field.

    Philosophy:

    • Compatible with that of a comprehensive urban community college.

    Some departments or programs have additional and/or alternative qualifications determined by faculty and/or an accrediting agency.
