    General Description
    SUNY Niagara is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our college as a Psychology Instructor in our Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Division. Located between the majestic Niagara Falls and the vibrant city of Buffalo, SUNY Niagara serves a diverse student population. With a commitment to academic excellence and student success, SUNY Niagara offers a supportive and collaborative environment for both faculty and staff.

    In addition to teaching assignments, the instructor will be responsible for student advisement, assessment of learning objectives, and participation in divisional and college activities. The teaching load is 15 credit hours per semester which will be comprised of primarily face-to-face instruction on campus so the the instructor will be required to be on campus every day. Teaching assignments may be during day, evening, or weekend hours. In addition, the instructor will be responsible for attending regular meetings on campus and participating in meetings and committee functions on campus.

    Classes are held on the main campus in Sanborn, NY, as well as the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute in Niagara Falls, NY. The Instructor must be able to attend face-to-face meetings, professional development, and other obligations on the Sanborn campus.

    Classes are three lecture hours per week during days and/or evenings. Modes of instruction include face-to-face, face-to-face enhanced, asynchronously online, blended synchronous online, hybrid, and/or hyflex (face-to-face, synchronous Zoom, and asynchronous online). Courses currently offered by the department include Introduction to Psychology, Lifespan Developmental Psychology, Child Development, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychology of Teaching and Learning, and Methods of Scientific Inquiry.

    The start date of this position will be August 29, 2024 for the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester.

    The successful candidate will only be required to work 162 days per academic year (August – May), and will be provided with a winter break from mid-December to early January, a Spring Break for one week in mid-March, and will work until the Spring semester ends in Mid-May (not required to work in June, July, and most of August).
    In addition to the base salary, there is the potential for overload and other assignments, which would increase the base salary. There is also a pathway for promotion to higher level salary positions (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor).

    Typical Work Activities
    Instruction
    • Provide instruction with the focus on teaching and learning to help ensure students in each class successfully meet all course outcomes and classroom objectives
    • Ensure appropriate course-level rigor in class instruction and assessment methodologies. Development, integration, and delivery of course content planning documents including, but not limited to, syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments.
    • Establish and maintain a classroom climate consistent with the SUNY Niagara mission and vision.


    Professional Development
    • Participate in professional development activities.
    • Maintain a current knowledge of teaching discipline/field of study as evidenced by active participation in professional organizations, maintenance of current scholarly collection of resources, and engagement in active, on-going dialogue with peer faculty.
    • Participate in faculty development opportunities, including program-specific and campus-wide faculty meetings.

    Administrative duties
    • Meet requirements for creation, distribution, and retention and/or submission of beginning- and end-of-term paperwork.
    • Participate in curriculum monitoring and development process by providing feedback on curriculum to Program Coordinator and/or the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs.
    • Attend required College functions including program meetings, graduation, and special activities.
    • Participate in campus-wide initiatives in support of retention and graduation goal attainment.
    • Other duties as assigned by the AVP of Academic Affairs

    Required Qualifications
    • A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts or Science degree in Psychology or related field.
    • Must have at least one year of experience providing face-to-face instruction at the college level.

    Desirable Qualifications
    • Ph.D. in Psychology.
    • Work experience in the field.
    • Experience with classroom technologies.
    • More than one year of experience providing face to face instruction at the college level
    • Experience with learning management system such as Brightspace.
    • Online teaching experience
    • Experience conducting academic advisement
    • Evidence of successful teaching of non-traditional students.
