Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for the pre-verification of insurance for patients being admitted into the hospital for care. Ensures insurance coverage by telephone, resolves any issues with coverage and escalates complicated issues to a supervisor or manager. Being an Insurance Verification Specialist interviews patients and completes all paperwork necessary to ensure the admitting process is efficient and all hospital and regulatory policies are in compliance. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Insurance Verification Specialist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. POSTION SUMMARY:
Files electronic and paper primary and secondary claims daily. Corrects rejected claims and resubmits. Posts insurance and mail payments. Codes and posts surgery/procedures performed by physicians in hospital, as well in office. Will also have general responsibilities to assist in the day to day operation of this office.
ESSENTIAL POSTION FUNCTIONS:
Files electronic claims to insurance companies daily.
Copies EOBs for paper claims and matches them to the appropriate claims and gets them mailed.
Works on all rejections and makes corrections. Refiles the claim.
Posts insurance payments and does required appeals on denials. Keeps a record of appeals completed and follows up on them to insure they are paid. Also posts mail payments from patients.
SCHEDULING AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
Answers billing questions from patients whether by phone, email, or regular mail.
Maintains strict confidentiality.
Performs other duties as required.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
None
POSTION REQUIRMENTS:
High school education or G.E.D. equivalent.
Three to five years experience in a surgical or specialty practice.
CPC certification appreciated but not required.
Possesses a preference for dealing with people who are ill and need help.
Comply with all regulatory requirements including OSHA.
Be capable of dealing tactfully and effectively with patients, family members, other employees, physicians and insurance companies.
Accurate computer knowledge and skills.
Possesses knowledge of modern office procedures and office equipment.
Possesses the ability to coordinate multiple tasks in detail.
