Labor Relations Director directs and oversees a company's labor relations programs, policies, and procedures. Establishes and maintains satisfactory labor-management relations, interprets the collective bargaining agreements, administers grievance procedures including arbitrations, and assists all levels of management on labor matters. Being a Labor Relations Director requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Additionally, Labor Relations Director typically reports to top management. The Labor Relations Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Labor Relations Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • We seek a workforce and labor relations leader with a background in leading a team of labor relations professionals within a progressive labor relations function.  This position will lead a team of 8 labor relations professionals for a labor force of roughly 3000 union employees and will be responsible for the ownership and driving of the labor strategy for NSP.  With a focus on continuous improvement, this position will be working with their peers to modernize and upgrade systems, processes and procedures and build a strong, collaborative relationship with HR. 

    The successful candidate will have a broad labor and HR knowledge with the ability to see how their role fits into and works with the company's people and business strategies. They will also be strong at translating enterprise strategies into business results. 

    The role will work with the regions operations leader, the COO and his leaders within Operations, the SVP of HR and her team, as well as their Director of Workforce Relations peers.

    1) Directs and strategically partners with operating company and business area leadership as Company spokesperson in negotiations with local and international union representatives. Work with operating company and business area leadership to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions to business problems and then negotiate the necessary agreements to achieve the business solution.

    2) Ensure alignment of HR strategies, processes, and practices with needs of business area by facilitating partnering with Workforce Relations and other HR areas and legal department in developing solutions that meet corporate and business area needs. This often results in cost avoidance for the corporation.

    3) Directs the Corporate responsibility for maintaining an effective and collaborative working relationship between international and local unions and Company leadership. Manages the relationship between the Company and union to provide for an interest based bargaining process that results in win-win solutions.

    4) Anticipate Workforce Relations needs of operating company and business area, responding proactively, influencing and driving processes to create more efficient and effective process. Direct and advise company leadership regarding interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, letters of understanding, corporate policies, investigations and discipline.

    5) Provide expert testimony and research services on company policy, employment and labor law, bargaining agreements in processing grievances, ULP charges, arbitration and other litigation.

    6) Leadership of Workforce Relations overall operations, (i.e., employees, budget, work-flow, assignments, etc.).

    7) Influence and drive change management processes through using business acumen to guide coach and counsel senior management in effecting strategies for improvement of business results.



    Requirements

    ·       Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources Management, Business Administration or equivalent education and/or experience. Advanced degree preferred.

    ·       10 years’ experience in the labor relations field or a combination of labor relations and HR/business experience, with 5 or more years of supervisory/management experience.

    ·       In depth knowledge of labor trends, federal, state, and local employment laws to include NLRA, ADA, FMLA and Title VII. Demonstrated experience working with highly confidential/sensitive information.

    ·       Proven communications/facilitation skills, including interaction with Officers and Senior Business Unit Leadership.

    ·       Strong leadership, planning, organizational and strategic planning skills.

    ·       Knowledge of regulatory requirements and their business and operational implications.

    Target - $150,000-$165,000 Base Salary Bonus
