Laboratory Assistant performs research activities in a laboratory environment to aid in the planning, designing, and conducting of experiments. Collects, prepares, and tests samples and records measurements or observations. Being a Laboratory Assistant prepares reports detailing results and conclusions, applications, and methodology. Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks on lab equipment to ensure working order. Additionally, Laboratory Assistant assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials and the ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. May be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Laboratory Assistant work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Laboratory Assistant typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
Ability to use a PC or Mac computer and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and to create instruction material, reports and equipment brochures
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Familiarity with the operations of basic laboratory equipment; ability to troubleshoot minor malfunctions of scientific equipment holdings
Excellent record keeping and file maintenance skills
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to work with mice on a daily to weekly basis
Proficient in working with databases
Ability to work on projects under the supervision of the PI
Required Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
One year of lab experience or college level science courses
