Laboratory Manager manages the daily activities of the laboratory. Develops laboratory policies and procedures and issues updates as needed. Being a Laboratory Manager plans and designs experiments. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Laboratory Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • POSITION SUMMARY: The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the laboratory, including overseeing personnel, managing resources, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.


    POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or directly related field preferred.

    Experience: Minimum four (4) years' experience in a medical/clinical laboratory position.


    Skills and Abilities (which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position):

    1. Ability to communicate effectively with the patients, health center staff and the public.
    2. Knowledge of current laboratory facilities, methods, equipment, materials and ability to perform standardized biological, chemical, and microbiological examinations independently.
    1. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
    1. Proficiency in laboratory operations, including sample processing, testing methodologies, and quality control.
    1. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards for laboratory testing (e.g., CLIA, CAP, OSHA).
    1. Ability to make quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses.
    1. Ability to manage processes and effectively multi-task.
    1. Ability to operate laboratory equipment
    1. Knowledge of public health laboratory laws and regulations; Clinical Laboratory Improvement
    1. Amendments (CLIA), sanitary bacteriology regulations
    1. Ability to operate a computer
    1. Strong oral and written communication skills including preparation of reports.
    1. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on efficiency and quality improvement.
    1. Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and data management software preferred

    Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

    License and Certification(s) Required: Licensed as RN in the State of Missouri, CPR Certification.


    FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

    Essential Functions:

    1. Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
    1. Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, and expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
    1. Manage administrative aspects of the laboratory.
    1. Keeps abreast of new developments, techniques and procedures on equipment, tests and methods as well as other information relating to the laboratory.

    1. Assures compliance with standards set forth by accrediting agencies: CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA and CMS. Develops and implements policies and procedures and verifies annual review of all policies and procedures.
    1. Monitor laboratory processes and procedures to identify areas for quality control improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
    1. Develop and manage laboratory budgets, including forecasting expenses and optimizing resource allocation.
    1. Directs, supports and promotes continuous improvement of quality and service to ensure the goal of excellence in clinical outcomes.
    1. Researches, evaluates, selects and implements systems which improve efficiency of department operations.
    1. Ensures maintenance of laboratory services and quality in accordance with prescribed standards and policies of the system, government and other accreditation agencies.
    1. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
    1. Provide guidance and support to laboratory staff, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
    1. Ensures department proactively responds to feedback from customers and implements improvement mechanisms to enhance the ability of the department to meet customer needs.
    1. Responsible for the ongoing assessment, monitoring and creation of action plans to address all regulatory issues including CAP/TJC/DFS/CMS.
    1. Implements a communication plan to ensure that department personnel are well informed. Fosters open communication by offering, encouraging, and accepting suggestions from staff regarding department operations.
    1. Keeps abreast of new developments, techniques and procedures on equipment, tests and methods as well as other information relating to the laboratory.
    1. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Marginal Functions:

    1. Contribute to the team effort by participating on committees.

    Supervises:

    1. Responsible for direct supervision of Laboratory Technicians.
