Typically reports to a director. The Laboratory Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Laboratory Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • The City of Keene’s Public Works Department is looking for an individual to join their team as a Laboratory Manager!  This position is responsible for the management, coordination, planning, and budgeting for laboratory operations and activities.  This includes field sampling, well monitoring, and process control of wastewater.  

    Responsibilities include
    , but are not limited to:
    • Supervise laboratory staff and participate as a senior leader in the Public Works Department and City activities and operations.  
    • Ensure accurate reporting and compliance with government standards and regulations.  Maintain a Quality System that ensures reliable, defensible data that is used for regulatory reporting.
    • This position is designated as the City’s “Backup Operator” of record with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services for the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
    • Develop field-sampling schedules and coordinates with outside contract laboratories for analysis as needed.  Analyze wastewater and drinking water samples for low level metals using an Atomic Absorption spectrometer.
    • Prepare the annual Laboratory budget, manage allocated funds, and approve invoices for payment.  Prepare Capital Improvement Program (CIP) information presenting priorities and projects.

    Note: This position is subject to standby duty and call-back during non-regular working hours, weekends, and holidays.  

    Requirements include, but are not limited to:
    • Bachelor's degree in a science related field such as Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Science.  Must have a minimum of 16 college semester credit hours in general biology or microbiology and at least two years of experience in environmental microbiology to meet the “Technical Manager” qualifications for the laboratory’s NH ELAP accreditation.
    • Grade III NH Water Treatment License is desired.
    • Grade IV NH Wastewater Treatment License is required within 18 months of hire.

    Salary and Benefits include:
    • This full-time position offers a salary range of $71,064- $88,559 annually.
