Legal Services Director oversees the activities of the organization's legal department. Provides legal advice, interpretation, and guidance to senior management and officers regarding contracts, state/federal regulatory requirements, intellectual property or trademark protection, and other business matters. Being a Legal Services Director reviews all information and prepares defense for any legal actions against the organization or advises on prosecuting lawsuits on behalf of the organization. Coordinates and reviews the work of internal or external legal staff. Additionally, Legal Services Director manages staff of attorneys. Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Requires admittance to a state bar. Typically reports to top management. The Legal Services Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Legal Services Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. The Legal Operations Executive Director serves as the day-to-day administrator of the business of the Firm, overseeing the human resources, accounting, finances, functional operations, firm systems and technology, marketing, business development, and facilities. The Executive Director’s role also includes supporting the Managing Partner and the Executive Committee by bringing to their attention matters which require substantive decisions regarding the operation of the Firm.
Job Description
- Accounting & Finance:
- Manage cash flow, forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, banking relationships, identify internal controls, processes and procedures, control expenses, authority over all accounting functions
- Operations & Administrative Management:
- Prepare for and attend Executive Committee meetings and keep minutes, prepare and attend partnership meetings and keep minutes, serve as ex officio member of firm committees, coordinate activities between committees, keep corporate records for the law firm, etc.
- Marketing & Business Development:
- Manage marketing budget, manage website, manage social media (firm LinkedIn page), handle/maintain/design all marketing materials, manage all firm advertising, manage advertising and donations to client events and related marketing materials, manage listings with Chambers & Partners, Best Lawyers/Best Law Firms, Insurance Bar, Law Diary, etc.
- Facilities Management:
- Set up policies and procedures for records management and retention, tenant relations, building security, equipment evaluation and acquisition, vendor selection and relations, and office assignments
Qualifications:
- 6 years of Office Administration, Legal Operations, HR Operations, or similar experience within a law firm required.
