    SUMMARY:

    The Research and Instruction Librarian is responsible for providing general and advanced discipline-specific research assistance and instruction services to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff of a designated college, including collection development and engagement, with a focus on coordinating and assessing research data services.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinates and implements research data services across all disciplines engaged in data-intensive research to meet the needs of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff researchers. Assesses effectiveness of data services strategies and initiatives.
    • Develops and implements policies, procedures, educational programs, and partnerships to expand campus awareness of data literacy and data services that support the discovery, use, and management of data.
    • Provides consultations and support for a variety of data services (data management planning, funder/publisher data requirements, locating relevant data sets, data visualization, geographic information systems, etc.), including data curation, description, storage, and preservation.
    • Provides library instruction, develops and creates print and online instructional materials, plans and conducts classes and workshops, and integrates information and digital literacy into the teaching, learning, and research activities of the university.
    • Provides research assistance (in-person, phone, chat, email, video conferencing, etc.) and serves as a subject librarian to a designated college/academic department.
    • Collaborates with colleagues and faculty to facilitate collection development to align scholarly resources with the teaching and research needs of the university and college.
    • Plans and participates in engagement activities and events and fosters collaborations with students, faculty, and staff in support of student success and retention.
    • Participates in the assessment of research and user engagement activities.
    • Serves on library and university committees.
    • Participates in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Education: Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
    • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and project management skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to: Ability to excel individually and as a team member. Ability to travel as needed. Ability to work beyond normal office hours (evenings, nights, and weekends) as needed. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to adapt to a changing library environment.
    • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver's license.
    • Physical Requirements: Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
    • Other Requirements: Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

    • One or more years of post MLS experience in research services (research, reference, instruction) in an academic library.
    • Experience developing online learning materials with e-learning technologies/software and other platforms (SpringShare, Camtasia, Articulate, Lectora, etc.).
    • Experience with instructional and universal design and active learning techniques.
    • Knowledge of the library's role in research data management and the research data life cycle.
    • Demonstrated exposure to data analysis and data visualization software.
    • Knowledge of current trends and tools in the curation, preservation, discovery, and use of open data sets.
    • Experience assessing the effectiveness of library services and programs.
