May perform clerical tasks related to book purchasing and payments. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Librarian Assistant works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Assistant/Associate Professor - Graduate Initiatives and Engagement Librarian

  • The Oklahoma State University Library seeks applicants for the position of Graduate Initiatives and Engagement Librarian. This position is a member of the OSU Library faculty reporting to the Director of Library Teaching and Learning. This is a tenure-track position with anticipated initial appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor.

    This Librarian will work to develop/maintain/coordinate library programs, collaborative activities, and partnerships related to graduate student education at the University. This position will also act as library liaison for the Spears School of Business and will work to support virtual reference support and training for graduate student reference employees.

    We expect some library experience but are primarily interested in a candidate’s curiosity and willingness to grow and develop as a professional, as well as their ability to help others grow and learn as part of a community. We welcome applications from early career candidates. This position will be a vital part of a highly collaborative library team that seeks to learn together and support each other.

    Responsibilities:

    ·         Graduate Library Instruction

    o   Develop and coordinate library programs supporting graduate students in utilizing library and research resources. This would include, but not be limited to:

    §  developing and conducting workshops

    §  creating and maintaining e-resources (i.e., guides, tutorials)

    §  instruction and teaching

    §  identifying and promoting resources/services to students

     

    ·         Graduate Liaison and Outreach Services

    o   Develop and nurture collaborative activities for graduate students across all colleges and programs, including course instruction and orientation services.

    o   Develop and maintain partnerships with on- and off-campus groups, as needed, that support graduate student learning.

    ·         Liaison and Instruction Services

    o   Perform liaison activities for the Spears School of Business (Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Hospitality and Tourism, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, and Design & Merchandising) (i.e., book orders, OA adoption, research assistance/support, library instruction)

    o   Work with Business Communications (BCOM) program to provide information literacy instruction

    o   Contribute to the undergraduate library instruction and outreach programs as needed.

     

    ·         Virtual Reference Support for Access Services

    o   Working with Library Access Services department:

    §  Provide monitoring, prioritization, and delegation of questions that arrive via LibAnswers reference system

    §  Provide training in research skills for students who support chat reference service

    Required Qualifications:

    ·       A master’s degree is required. While we anticipate that many applicants will have an ALA accredited master’s in library/information science, we are also interested in candidates with a relevant mix of education and experience, including a variety of Business degrees

    ·       Experience working with graduate and/or professional students in an academic setting

    ·       Experience providing training or instruction to in-person and/or virtual audiences

    ·       An appreciation for diversity and the ability to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment

    Ability to:

    ·       Interact with the public in a friendly manner, successfully complete multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adjust to evolving campus needs

    ·       Communicate complicated ideas effectively, listen well, and respond to student, staff, and faculty needs

    ·       Work effectively and cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff to foster collaborative partnerships inside and outside the library in order to build community and connections

    ·       Meet university requirements for tenure, including scholarly and creative activities and service

    The salary is a minimum $55,000 annually for a 11-month appointment with a generous holiday schedule, health care plans, and retirement options. As a new library faculty member, you will receive start-up funding for research and/or professional travel and have access to the Library’s grant writer and development team as well as a full communication team.
