    Summary:

    The Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) K-12 Teacher Librarian (TL) is a: teacher and instructional planning partner; information professional; technology and innovation specialist; literacy advocate; involved in all aspects of the teaching and learning process. In addition to managing the day-to-day library operations and creating and maintaining a blended, responsive and aligned collection, the TL proactively partners with instructional staff to develop and deliver multiple literacies and essential 21st Century Skills through the administration and implementation of innovative library programming and services and collaborative teaching.

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate, when appropriate, in collaborative decision making at the school.
    • Plans and conducts formal and informal (point-of-need) professional development for staff that empowers teachers to confidently integrate information literacy skills, digital tools and resources, and essential 21st Century Skills into content areas; Ability to lead and help others make sense of change and adjust to change; Develop, lead and support face-to-face, online, and blended professional development. 
    • Model and support teachers on purposeful design in the lesson/project planning process using curricular frameworks and concepts including but not limited to: Design Thinking, Project-Based Learning (PBL), SAMR, Blended Learning, 1:Web devices. 
    • Research and network with regional, national, and global experts and thought-leaders to connect students with the greater learning community. 
    • Instructs students in the research process to locate, evaluate, curate, analyze, and synthesize information, enhance writing, publish globally and share their knowledge with the world. 
    • Collaborate with teachers to design and co-teach authentic and engaging learning experiences that are multidisciplinary and incorporate multiple literacies to foster critical thinking, community, collaboration, communication, and creativity (5Cs), essential 21st Century Skills, and digital and technology literacies. 
    • Offer guidance and expertise to address digital citizenship and civic responsibility, and promote and model ethical use of information and technology through respect for intellectual property and compliance with appropriate laws and copyright guidelines. 
    • Develop instruction, programs, and environments for students that supports discovery, creativity, exploration, and risk taking and allows students to take a lead role in demonstrating mastery in multiple literacies. 
    • Provide leadership and expertise necessary to ensure library programming and services support student learning and are aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of the school and the district. 
    • Provides a barrier-free learning environment that is an inviting, accessible, and stimulating hub with work-space for individuals and groups, researching, listening, reading, using technology, creating products, and reflects current research and trends on student agency, patron self sufficiency, and maker-centered learning. 
    • Collaborate with staff and students to build a blended, responsive, and aligned library collection that supports literacy instruction and develops all learners’ curiosity in, and intellectual access to, appropriate resources in all formats to promote and encourage reading. 
    • Research, identify, evaluate, and incorporate information resources and educational technologies as appropriate in the teaching and learning process. 
    • Remain current in professional practices including but not limited to K-12 student literature trends and reading literacy best practices, developments in information technologies, and educational research to maximize instruction with students. 
    • Positively impacts student achievement through innovative instructional strategies. 
    • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of the curriculum and content area. 
    • Effectively manages the learning environment. 
    • Values student diversity and support the unique learning needs of each individual student. 
    • Exhibits a growth mindset through participation in high quality professional learning. 
    • Works collaboratively with colleagues, families and community. 
    • Builds positive relationships and communicate effectively with families. 
    • Uses inclusive and differentiated instructional practices to support all students.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process with a School Librarian endorsement (must upload license or in process documentation to application).
    • Applicants who hold a Colorado teaching license and enroll in a School Librarian program upon hire will be considered. 
    • The endorsement must be acquired within 36 months. 
    • Completed and submitted BVSD on-line application. 

    Preferred: 

    • Technology skills that are aligned with District Technology Plan & Vision; must acquire within 12 months of hire. 
    • Master's degree in school library media or library science or currently enrolled in a program and previous experience in teaching. 
    • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. 
    • Ability to foster and manage change. 
    • Ability to proactively promote innovative teaching strategies, information literacy skills, and instructional technology competencies among students and staff. 
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
    • Demonstrated ability in creating, maintaining, and providing instruction on organizational systems. 
    • Exceptional customer service and public relations skills. 
    • Excellent co-teaching and collaboration skills with peers.

    • Proven instructional technology skills and experience: technical competencies in K-12-based hardware and software including cloud-based services; integration of mobile devices in education. 
    • Evidence of life-long learner who is "networked": subscribes to blogs, listservs, online groups and forums, and relevant online newsletters and publications; is a contributing member of a personal learning network (PLN); familiarity with professional organizations that support mission of K-12 libraries and instructional technology; willingness to attend and/or present at regional, state, and national professional conferences.
