Reshelves returned books and materials and updates the library information system. Being a Librarian Assistant maintains user account and access data and processes special requests for materials. Performs routine cataloging processes. Additionally, Librarian Assistant assists with maintenance and update processes for library databases, software, and systems. May perform clerical tasks related to book purchasing and payments. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Librarian Assistant works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Title: Supervisor Librarian (Juvenile Focus)

    Location: Lawrence Branch

    Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

    Schedule: May vary, but will consist of day, evening, and weekend hours, including some mandatory Sundays

    Starting Hourly Rate: $23.65 per hour

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Position Summary

    Under general guidance of a manager, the Supervisor Librarian supervises a team comprised of Pages and/or Public Service Associates and Librarians while exercising professional librarian which includes extensive knowledge of specialized print and electronic resources, knowledge and maintenance of the collection, plans, schedules and implements programming, fosters community partnerships as appropriate to promote and improve library services. The Supervisor Librarian is responsible for conducting interviews, hiring, assignment of work responsibilities, training, and performance management of assigned department staff.

    A successful candidate will…

    · Have an MLS or an MIS degree.

    · Have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of Library/supervisory experience

    · Indiana State Librarian Certificate 3 – Professional Assistant

    · Previous experience with youth programming and/or reference (preferred but not required).

    · Be bilingual (preferred but not required).

    What does the job look like?

    · Interviews, hires, trains and evaluates performance management for assigned personnel and volunteers. Conducts regular staff meetings to communicate information to staff, listens to staff concerns and reports them to senior management as appropriate.

    · Provides direction, coaching and leadership to staff.

    · Models and encourages staff to provide excellent customer service.

    · Directs the plans for services and programs for the community; schedules, delivers and evaluates programs based on feedback from participants, changing demographics, and customer needs and interests.

    · Directs staff in creating and implementing Community Action Plans.

    · Directs staff in the maintenance of the collection. Recommends new materials, organizes displays to promote the collection, and evaluates and discards damaged or lesser used titles.

    · Directs staff in the marketing of the collection through comments and lists on Bibliocommons. Creates comments, lists and blogs on Bibliocommons.

    · Develops appropriate partnerships with groups and maintains a presence in the community to promote library use, programs and services through presentations, e-mail, publicity and meeting attendance.

    · Provides information by searching or recommending print or electronic sources or titles, places materials request, searches shelves, or refers to other libraries or community sources. Instructs patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources to access information, and in using computers and equipment, as well as other online resources including government and social services websites.

    · Assists in the collection and analysis of data on library use, services, trends and community resources.

    · Acts as person-in-charge on a regular basis; attends to patron, security and building issues as needed. Informs and enforces library policies and procedures as needed. Determines if suspension of patron privileges is warranted and length of time of suspension.

    · Creates, monitors and adjusts long-range and weekly schedules for staff. Works with manager on hourly staff budget.
