The Librarian Assistant works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     Definition of Classification:

    The Armacost Library at the University of Redlands seeks a collaborative team member to lead and innovate collection strategies across multiple organizational environments and cultures. The Collections Librarian will reconceive library collections to engage with scholarly communications, open access publishing, library publishing, artificial intelligence, and respond to shifts in student demographics. These responsibilities build upon traditional responsibilities that include managing print and electronic resources, acquisitions and deaccessioning resources, data and assessment of collections.     The Armacost Library seeks candidates who share our commitment to welcome, teach, and support students in their learning and growth. The Collections Librarian will report to the Library Director and collaborate across units within the Library and University, and with consortial partners. In addition to collections management, this librarian will liaise with various campus units to provide instruction, scholarly communications, and reference consultations.

    The Library serves an expanding University across multiple locations within California and across the globe. As higher education and the University prepare for the future, we seek new faculty colleagues to help shepherd our own transformations.     This is a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Librarian. All faculty undergo University-wide, periodic reviews which carry expectations of research, service to the discipline and University.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Engages with the profession and scholarship to inform collection practices; cultivates relationships with the University community through outreach, service, and participation in assemblies and events; engages with library consortia to leverage opportunities.
    • Liaise with various campus units to inform and provide instruction, scholarly communications, and reference consultations.
    • Creates opportunities to initiate campus and departmental dialogue around student needs, teaching and learning, and emerging trends and issues as they relate to collections, publishing, and access models.
    • Applies critical praxis in the short- and long-term stewardship of budgets; explores ways to support open and equitable collections; collaborates with colleagues across scholarly communication, instruction, outreach, access services, and systems to shape policies and practices.
    • Manages acquisitions, short-term leases, ongoing subscriptions and cancellations; coordinates the collection and analysis of data to discern trends and inform strategic planning, acquisition and deaccession decisions, budget proposals and allocations.
    • Guides and supports library colleagues in acquisitions and collections work by facilitating dialogue around trends and best practices, developing policies and procedures; supervises staff directly and indirectly.
    • Advocate for open, equitable, and sustainable practices; negotiate contracts and vendor relationships to reflect professional values.

    Qualifications Guidelines

    Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

    Experience/Training/Education:

    Required

    • Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program (or international equivalent).
    • Demonstrated commitment to creating and sustaining a diverse, welcoming, and inclusive working and learning environment.
    • Knowledge of emerging trends in physical and electronic library collections management.
    • Knowledge of emerging trends in scholarly communications.
    • Capacity and a desire to build and maintain healthy teams spanning multiple locations.
    • Capacity and a desire to develop collaborative, working relationships with colleagues and students across the University.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
    • Knowledge of project management practices.
    • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Capacity to develop and sustain an active research agenda that results in peer-reviewed artifacts.

    Preferred

    • Experience as a person-centered manager and project leader, particularly in the implementation of change in academic libraries.
    • Knowledge of emerging trends in licensing and copyright, digital rights management, digital preservation, open-access, and accessibility.
    • Experience stewarding collections budgets.
    • Experience leading collaborative, strategic planning.
    • Experience supporting textbook affordability initiatives.
    • Experience with library instruction.
    • Experience working with vendors and negotiating contracts.
    • Experience with shared print initiatives.
    • Experience with Controlled Digital Lending.
    • Experience with library systems such as Alma, Alma Analytics, Primo, GOBI, LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibWizard, LibInsight.
    • Experience with grant writing and implementation.
    • Commitment to critical librarianship.

The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Hiring Range.
