    The purpose of this position is to deliver public service, plan, and coordinate the activities of a service section. This may include supervising staff, project and program coordination, cultivating outreach efforts, and supporting division-wide initiatives.  This position requires the individual to demonstrate the highest level of excellent customer service and professionalism to internal and external customers of the Division.  Additionally, the essential skills of this position requires an individual who is flexible and adaptable in performing tasks and meeting customers' needs.
     
     The ideal candidate will:

    • provide reference and technical support to customers of all ages
    • work with their team to develop and provide high-quality programs, classes, and events for all ages
    • plan and acquire resources needed for programs and services;
    • accurately collect and report statistics
    • conduct tours for students to highlight the collection and services
    • be responsible for a designated section of the library's collection to ensure relevance through selection, de-selection, and assessment of the library collection
    • serve as Supervisor in Charge as assigned
    • maintain effective relationships with community groups and local stakeholders
    • regularly participate in outreach activities
    • serve on committees and teams to improve service to the public 

    Other responsibilities include:

    • coordinate and oversee volunteer activities and documenting hours performed
    • team leader or lead worker on specific assigned projects
    • maintaining awareness and responsiveness to the changing needs in the community
    This position will also perform related work as assigned and may be assigned to work at any library location based on operational needs.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
    Requires a Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or closely related field.

    Special Certifications and Licenses

    • Master's degree or higher in Education or related field that is separate but relevant from the Minimum Qualifications
    • ALA Leadership Certificate
    • Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute Certificate
    • Post Master Certificate in Librarianship
    • Six (6) months or more experience in Grant Writing Experience
    • Six (6) months or more experience in Project Planning Experience

    General Description
    Performs related library services and provides customer service to library patrons.
    Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.


    Duties and Responsibilities

    The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

    Works at the circulation desk answering reference questions, phone calls, providing computer assistance, locating or reserving items for customers, and directing customers to other areas of the library.

    Coordinates the adult programming schedule; creates and runs programs for teens, tweens, and children to meet the educational and recreational needs of youth in the community, and provides an attractive and stimulating environment for youth to learn and grow; plans, develops and conducts special exhibits; provides age appropriate programming to babies up to age three, along with their parents.

    Assists in all aspects of summer reading program, booking entertainment, providing programs, decorations, displays, registration and prizes; advertises events in print and electronic formats.

    Trains, supervises, and writes performance appraisals for paraprofessionals and other subordinate employees, including teen volunteers to provide service opportunities to teens in the community and to assist the branch with day to day operational needs.

    Maintains collection in assigned areas by fixing call number errors, repairing damaged items and labels, wedding materials to remove damaged, outdated materials and redistributing to locations where they will of better use, and selecting donated items to add to the collection to keep the collection relevant, in good condition, to increase the collection and make it accessible.

    Provides assistance with computers, including reservations, printing, scanning, software assistance, internet trouble shooting, logging into the network, and e-books, to enable library customers to successfully use the technology the library offers.

    Acts as Supervisor in Charge on a rotating basis, taking responsibility for the building and handling any crisis that may arise; enforces the library's code of conduct to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all library customers.

    Acts as liaison between the library and academic partners as well as external agencies; conducts database and bibliographic instruction classes to the general public and academic partners; develops book displays to create interest, display, and promote materials on certain topics or themes; develops special projects such as new or special programming or grant proposals.

    Compiles monthly statistical reports to keep track of library usage, program attendance and other factors; compiles and sends out new best sellers, new music CDs (compact discs), audiobooks, and DVDs (digital video disc) email newsletters.

    Maintains department schedule, including recording weekly hours for department members on a centralized building schedule, scheduling all appropriate staff to cover service desks, and maintaining a scheduling calendar for agency staff.

    Performs related work as assigned.

    Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
