LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     JOB SUMMARY
    Participates in the selection and organization of library resources. Helps manage, maintain, and promote access to library resources. Provides instructional services and support for students and faculty.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
    Other duties may be assigned.

    Collection Management

    • Participates in the evaluation, selection, and acquisition or licensing of library resources including books, e-books, databases and other digital materials.

    • Works in concert with the Director of Library Services to maintain the library's print, ebook, and digital resources inventory.

    • Regularly evaluates and weeds resources based on identified needs.

    • Catalogs and organizes print and digital material to facilitate discovery, access, and use.

    • Researches and assists with library resource acquisition and maintenance.


    Instruction and Support

    • Plans and implements library instructional programming for Elementary, Middle, and High School students in collaboration with the Director of Library Services and teachers.

    • Consults with faculty regarding curriculum materials and curricular design.

    • Models best practices for teachers in research and information literacy instruction.

    • Provides readers’ advisory services as needed (book talks, recommendations, etc.).

    • Provides reference and library-related technology support as appropriate including but not limited to database access, account management, user authentication, troubleshooting, etc.


    Library Environment and Outreach

    • Ensures a welcoming and well-maintained environment for students and faculty.

    • Maintains behavior standards for students in the library.

    • Maintains displays of books, projects, etc. within the library.

    • Develops and maintains a productive working relationship with faculty, staff, students, and community librarians.

    • Assists in the preparation of the budget.

    • Attends faculty and other pertinent school committee meetings.

    • Actively engages in professional organizations, such as HASL, ALA, AASL, AISL, and others, staying current with industry trends and best practices to enhance library services.


    SCHOOL SAFETY

    • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.

    • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.

    • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.

    • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately, to their Supervisor and Human Resources.

    • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.

    • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.

    • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within area of responsibility.

    • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.

    • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.

    • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Supervises Library classified staff in absence of the Director of Library/Media Services. Strong organizational and communication skills are particularly important.

    QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE
    Requires master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLS) and teaching experience or other equivalent experience in an educational setting. Requires proficiency with computer and mobile technologies, common technology and information oriented platforms, and effective use of online resources. Must demonstrate a willingness to work with faculty and students and to develop a knowledge of the school community and curriculum.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The individual is required to talk and hear, often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee may be required to stand, walk, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires close vision.

    MENTAL DEMANDS
    On a daily basis, must frequently problem solve, make decisions, interpret data, organize, speak, write, plan, and clearly communicate.

    Telephone, computer, iPad - frequently;
    Copier, printers and other hardware – occasionally
