LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     The teacher is the educational leader in the classroom and will ensure that the Sioux City Community School District programs and curricula are implemented in a way that maximizes student-learning experiences. The teacher is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all students within his/her teaching assignment. Consistent with the Department of Education and Sioux City Community School District policies, the teacher will work within an established framework for the delivery of educational services which support student learning. Working collaboratively with a team of educational professionals, the teacher will demonstrate a strong commitment to planning for the improvement of student achievement.

     

    Organizes and presents instruction in an instructional environment which helps students learn the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

     

    Collaborate with building technology coach to model effective and creative strategies for integrating technology in the curriculum across all content areas.

     

    Provide opportunities to connect staff and students with communities of learners locally, nationally, and internationally.

     

    Provide information and instruction to staff and students in the areas of instructional technology, information literacy, the Inquiry process, Acceptable Use Policy, cyberbullying/online behavior, copyright, and intellectual property.

     

    Collaborate with teachers in preparation, presentation, and evaluation of units/assignments that utilize information resources and digital technologies.

     

    Promote a culture of reading at the building level; provide quality reading materials in a variety of print and digital formats, encourage reading in the content area, provide reader advisory for staff and students, and promote reading as a leisure activity.

     

    Design and deliver professional development for staff that aligns with building, department, and District goals.

     

    Provide a virtual library presence that allows staff and students to access information and library materials at the point of need.

     

    Maintain a welcoming physical library space that encourages collaboration, creativity, and innovation.

     

    Create and maintain a personal learning community to foster professional growth.

     

    Develop and maintain a vibrant library collection of digital and print material that meets the rapidly changing needs of staff and students and complies with district collection policies.

     

    Supervise the day-to-day operation of the library.

     

    Train and supervise library staff, student workers, and volunteers.

     

    Administer the building library budget.

     

    Manage the inventory of building library materials/technology equipment and prepare annual reports.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Minimum qualifications include a valid Iowa teaching certificate, a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a librarian endorsement for academic level. Must possess proper state certification and licensure for the position. The employee is expected to demonstrate continued professional growth specific to the program(s).

     

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS

    Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical to the success of this position.  Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization, including staff, principals, and central administration.    Communication will include individual to large group presentations as well as written communications and reports.  The individual must have effective listening skills.

     

    ANALYTICAL and REASONING SKILLS

    The individual must have a solid background in assessment and have the ability to interpret data, which may be very complex and varied.  Must be able to apply assessment strategies and link assessment data analysis to school improvement, curriculum, and professional development.

     

    TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

    Position requires the individual to be competent in a variety of methods in research and information gathering through technology.  The ability to present and communicate through technology is required.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Normal office physical demands.  May periodically have moderate physical demands and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Generally, the employee works inside.

     

    OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

    Will perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee, necessary and appropriate to the achievement of the program, and/or District goals and objectives.
