The position is roughly 5 years long, with coursework and a thesis. At the end, you will earn a PhD that will open new paths for senior R&D positions in materials companies.

The Macromolecular Science and Engineering graduate program is the first school in the country to offer an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science program in polymer science, and the first to establish a stand-alone department dedicated to the subject in 1963.

We’re in the business of the next big thing. From faculty labs to independent student projects, the department is home to cutting edge research. Create a synthetic super-sponge that could soak up oil spills or use natural materials like spider webs to inspire the unbreakable fibers of the future. Use UV light to activate a self-healing coating that fixes scratches in seconds. Or make any number of polymer-based breakthroughs at the country’s only NSF Science and Technology Center devoted exclusively to soft materials – the university’s Center for Layered Polymeric Systems, known around the nation as CLiPS.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and experiments in the field of Soft Matter and Material Science in the prestigeous Department of Macromolacular Science and Engineering
- Collect and analyze data using various techniques and tools, which is lab dependent. There are openings in Polymer Chemistry labs, Polymer Physics labs with advanced imaging techniques, and Polymer Processing labs. Research positions doing simulations are also available.
- Collaborate with a team of researchers to develop and implement research projects
- Prepare reports and presentations on research findings
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field, read and publish relevent research papers and attend conferences.

Experience:
- Some undergraduate research experience is a plus, but not necessary.

- Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or Macrmolecular Scinece is required.
