Library Researcher carries out research activities in a library. Processes requests for research information and compiles information on related topics. Being a Library Researcher requires a bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Under limited supervision, must be mentally and physically capable of providing temporary or part-time supervision of assigned Library branch location, ensuring the provision of effective and efficient services to the public. Provides direct assistance to patrons and promotes library programs as appropriate. Maintains branch circulation records. Reports to the Branch Manager.
Oversees the operations and activities of a Florence County branch library as necessary.
Provides reference readers’ advisory services to patrons.
Performs circulation duties with efficiency, including registering new patrons and issuing cards, checking in and out materials, renewing items, searching computer database of books and recording book reserve requests, accepting fines, accepting payments for copies, emptying book drops, maintaining circulation records, responding to questions and requests for directions or assistance by patrons, explaining library policy and procedures to patrons, etc.
Selects, orders and processes leased books.
Recommends purchase of titles/subjects to appropriate Library personnel.
Performs computer data entry to record and retrieve various information, to prepare documents and correspondence.
Evaluates and analyzes branch library services and recommends or implements changes and additional services.
Consults with supervisor in matters relating to policy and procedure.
Keeps informed of professional developments in library science.
May supervise the daily activities of support staff or volunteers.
Attends meetings, workshops and conferences as deemed necessary.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents, including billing invoices, ledgers, patron registration forms, patron records, circulation report, materials due date cards, memos, correspondence.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, patrons, students, teachers, community organizations, sales representatives and the general public.
Works evenings and weekends as required.
Shelves books, periodicals and newspapers; weeds collections; repairs damaged books; moves furniture and equipment as needed.
Secures branch building at end of day.
Performs a variety of administrative duties in order to maintain efficient office operations, including but not limited to typing, copying, filing, processing daily mail, ordering supplies, etc.
Plans and creates displays for the branch building which foster an interest in reading and in library events. Distributes information on library hours, library programs, etc. Conducts library tours for school and community groups.
Maintains cleanliness and neatness of building, performing such housekeeping duties as vacuuming floors, dusting, removing trash and cleaning restrooms.
Performs related duties as required. The Florence County Library System may change assigned work location and schedule of any position depending upon the needs of the system.
Operates and utilizes various types of office and other equipment including computers, printers, Evergreen integrated library system, faxes, copiers, telephones, microfilm reader/printer, audio-visual equipment, adding machine, fax machine, typewriter, telephone, laminator, vacuum cleaner, etc.
Requires a high school diploma supplemented by three years of library or related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
College degree is preferred.
Must possess a valid South Carolina’s Driver License.
