Description:

Position Summary
The Library Assistant is responsible for providing prompt, courteous, accurate service to circulation desk patrons, in person, electronically and over the telephone; provides clerical support of library operations including interlibrary loan and technical services.

Work hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

May need to work evening and weekend hours in case of staff shortage or emergencies.

Duties & Responsibilities

• 
  Staff User Services Desk, serving as first point of contact for on-site users and telephone inquiries
• Answer routine questions about the library circulation policies, hours, etc.
• Assist with processing daily Illinois Library Delivery Service (ILDS) requests
• Perform data entry for automated circulation system records for new patron records including incoming classes and faculty
• Handle Library mail collection and distribution
• Search for records in online catalogs and explain contents of records to library users
• Perform circulation transactions using automated circulation systems (charges, discharges, renewals, saves, etc.) in person, email or phone

• Provide administrative support to department staff as needed
• Create and maintain weekly unit calendars
• Develop forms, documents, and spreadsheets
• Order and issue office supplies
• Manage work orders for equipment, facility repair and maintenance.
• Create and develop promotional materials for library display case
• Create and maintain signage for various information

• Screen reference questions provide basic information services and refer complicated questions to others in the unit as appropriate

• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
