Job Overview:
A Researcher position is available in the laboratory of Dr. John Hulleman (@HullemanLab, https://med.umn.edu/ophthalmology/research/hulleman-lab) in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences at the University of Minnesota. The Hulleman Laboratory is dedicated to developing treatments for debilitating eye diseases by leveraging newly-gained perspectives in biochemistry, chemical biology, and gene therapy. We have an opening for a researcher position (funded through a recent R21 grant) that focuses on leveraging the power and utility of chemoproteomics (i.e., activity-based protein profiling) to provide new actionable information for the treatment of eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration.
Candidates must hold a B.S. or B.A. degree in a relevant field (e.g., biology, chemistry, biochemistry) and have 1 year of non-course related wet lab experience. Candidates must be self-driven, creative, and willing to learn new techniques in a quickly evolving environment. Experience with analyzing complex data sets or the ability to program is a plus. The individual who fills this position must also be willing to work with rodent models of ocular diseases. This is a perfect opportunity for an individual to gain critical experience before transitioning on to graduate school.
Responsibilities:

(30%) Conduct research using techniques which include ocular injections, tissue isolation, papain dissociation, protein extraction, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, sample preparation for mass spectrometry and RNAseq, immunofluorescence microscopy.
(20%) Perform visualization of dyes in vivo in the mouse eye using SLO and fundus imaging.
(10%) Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
(5%) Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories.
(5%) Participate in scientific conferences.
