Job Description
The Researcher 3 position manages complex research projects and related education and training activities within the Physician Scientist Education amp; Training initiative in the College of Medicine and the Bumgardner Transplant Immunology Laboratory in the Department of Surgerys Comprehensive Transplant Center. Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Physician Scientist Education amp; Training, this position will provide specialized support to various research and training initiatives in the Deans Physician Scientist Scholars Program (PSSP) and the Physician Scientist Development Program (PSDP). This includes conducting complex immunology research independently and serving as a technical expert, preparing scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and preparing research proposals to secure extramural research funding. Research activities include review and critical analysis of scientific literature, planning, designing and performing complex and advanced research experiments, processing and analysis of data, data interpretation and application, implementing new and/or troubleshooting and revising research methodologies, developing and establishing research controls and standards, application of statistical and other software and graphics tools to prepare reports, presentations, manuscripts and research grant applications. Performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research, collaborates with principal investigator(s) to prepare and write research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentations, assists with the development, preparation, and writing of grant proposals to obtain new funding or renewal of funding, identifies and recommends new funding sources as appropriate. Assists with the preparation of research progress reports. Assists faculty leadership in oversight of grant budget and expense monitoring. Ensures compliance with Ohio States policies and procedures, research compliance policies, procedures and ethical standards, IRB, funding restrictions, and other research related regulations. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Requirements
A doctoral degree in a biomedical science field
Required Qualifications
A doctoral degree and 5 years of relevant immunology research experience are required. Current working knowledge and skills to independently conduct immunology research, conduct human subjects research, communicate scientific results in oral and written form and apply research related software including statistical and graphics software for preparation of scientific publications are required. Experience with education and training of physician scientist trainees is desirable. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be asked to take a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
