INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES
POSITION PURPOSE: Oversees the planning and all operations of the Beaufort County School District library media centers, supports library staff responsibilities, and works with faculty in developing library collections.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works with library staff to develop library goals, objectives, and methods for achieving the mission of the library.
- Works with faculty and the library staff in creating, evaluating and weeding library collections.
- Directly supports school library staff in district and school initiatives.
- Promotes innovative and creative ideas among staff and fosters a cohesive library workforce that provides professional assistance to all customers.
- Oversees the development and delivery of library technologies that support the delivery of course content inside and outside the classroom.
- Collaborate with Director of Literacy and Director of Educational Technology to encompass literacy and technology goals in the library media centers.
- Manages departmental budgets by overseeing expenditures and planning for new initiatives.
- Monitors and provides appropriate resource materials that support a large variety of subjects and learning outcomes.
- Evaluates effectiveness of existing services and identifies the needs of and creates new services that meet the demands of a diverse student and faculty population
- Promotes library services as a vital part of teaching and learning to students, faculty, and staff
- Implements and manages policies and procedures for the library.
- Develops and oversees Administrative Regulation(s) and operations associated with responsibilities identified with the respective Administrative Regulation(s)
- Develops long-range plans and goals for the enhancement of services, resources, and facilities and ensures that those plans align with departmental goals and the district’s mission
- Actively engages faculty and staff to select appropriate materials that will update the existing library collections and electronic resources
- Develops and maintains an inventory system to ensure all books and resources are properly monitored and maintained
- Represents the district at meetings, conferences, and in the community in order to expand partnerships and stay current on trends and the changing roles of libraries in the collegiate setting.
- Develop and submit reports and accountability practices as required by the Superintendent.
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits in an effective and timely manner.
- Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to education.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Data Services, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid South Carolina teaching certificate.
- Masters in Library Media Services and a minimum of 5 years experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form – to include lesson planning, memos, technology planning, procedures, policies and grant writing.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of course management systems, online instructional software, and technical systems.
