Library Services Director supervises, maintains, and enhances policies and procedures for a library. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     The Drake University Law Library fosters research and learning by providing exceptional services, collections, and facilities that empower the Drake community to access, critically evaluate, and apply information.

    Job Summary:

    The Drake University Law Library is seeking a proactive and organized individual to join our team as the Access Services Associate. The Access Services Associate is an essential position for maintaining the library’s collection and enhancing public services, including managing stacks and circulation projects, supervising student shelving assistants, and providing interlibrary loan services.

    The ideal candidate will be a collaborative colleague who possesses solid communication and organizational skills, demonstrates a commitment to customer service, and is detail oriented.

    This is a full-time, 12-month position.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions
    • Computer experience, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications, and ability to search databases and online catalog

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s
    • 1-3 years of professional experience in an office, educational, or library setting

    Job Duties:

    20% - Manage stack projects, including shelving, shifting, and shelf checking. Develop, record, implement, and regularly review stack management procedures, including holdings policies. Periodically weed out-of-date materials. - (Essential)

    20% - Coordinate stacks maintenance staffing, including responsibility for all aspects of hiring, training, scheduling, and managing student shelving assistants. Manages and approves student shelving assistant time cards. - (Essential)

    15% - Help staff the Information Desk, including greeting and assisting library visitors; interpreting library policies and procedures; assisting library users with information, circulation, library technology, and facilities requests; and finding needed information using catalogs, indices, and computer databases. Handle advanced circulation functions, including monitoring and responding to law-circulation email and daily circulation reports; creating and maintaining patron records; and placing items on reserve. - (Essential)

    10% - Process and monitor library overdue notices and bills. Monitor and update missing items lists. - (Essential)

    10% - Coordinate interlibrary loan, document delivery and Drake Law Library Association member requests. Use specialized software and computer databases to fill lending and borrowing requests. Maintain monthly interlibrary loan statistics. Keep interlibrary loan procedure manual up-to-date. - (Essential)

    10% - Oversee a regular inventory of facility needs, such as lighting, signage, chairs, etc. Report or complete repairs as appropriate. Submit facilities requests for repairs and maintenance. Attend monthly building contact meetings and share relevant news with other library employees. - (Essential)

    10% - Perform select administrative and outreach duties and provide back-up to other library staff. - (Essential)

    5% - Attend meetings, trainings, and events, as required, and perform additional duties, as assigned. - (Essential)
