Library Services Director jobs in Baton Rouge, LA
Library Services Director supervises, maintains, and enhances policies and procedures for a library. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Library Services Director selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Library Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Requirements

- Familiarity with technology including Microsoft Office, online retrieval of information, and the ability to learn library applications such as eBooks and other digital downloads.

- Organization and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Work is performed in a busy library setting, subject to moderate noise. Must be able to move about the library, transport weight up to 25 pounds, communicate, and use equipment such as a computer, telephone, digital equipment and scanner, microfilm reader/printer, fax machine, and photocopiers. Must be able to retrieve library materials from tall shelves.
