Library Services Director jobs in Johnson City, TN
Library Services Director supervises, maintains, and enhances policies and procedures for a library. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Library Services Director selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Library Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. This position does have a youth focus and candidates must be enthusiastic about helping library patrons develop literacy skills and create lifelong memories at the library which sometimes involves glitter or getting messy.
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for facilitating weekly youth outreach programs
- Responsible for planning and implementing programming in the library for pre-k to middle school age children, not to include the library's weekly story time.
- May be required to facilitate programming for adults
- Complete circulation duties as directed by the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager
- Work with the Branch Manager to serve the programming needs of the community
- Receives and records money per library policies
- Work with the Library Director to develop an individual plan for continuing education and professional development
Candidates must be willing to complete a background check.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
Schedule:
- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Weekends as needed
