Library Services Director supervises, maintains, and enhances policies and procedures for a library. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Library Services Director selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Library Assistant is responsible for assisting patrons with checking out and receiving library materials using the Library’s computerized circulation system; locating books and other materials for patrons of all ages; registering patrons for library cards, assisting patrons in using the library’s public computers and all electronic resources; help answering questions using the Internet, online databases, and/or other sources; making minor repairs to books and other library materials; locating and routing library materials as requested by other branches; sorting and shelving books as needed; may occasionally assist with senior, adult and youth programs; other duties as assigned.
