Library Services Director supervises, maintains, and enhances policies and procedures for a library. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Library Services Director selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Primary Responsibilities
Plans and implements programming for age groups birth to young adult.
Participates in collection development for youth and young adult materials, by budgeting, selecting, purchasing, and weeding print and e-materials.
Creates inviting displays and decorations.
Delivers outreach services to community organizations serving youth.
Maintains statistics for annual reports.
Manages Youth Services staff
Acts as a member of the Management Team
Qualifications
Master’s in Library Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with children required.
Library experience in Youth Services is preferred.
Proficient with technology.
Excellent public service skills.
Spanish language skills are a plus.
