Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Library Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Control of Facility: Has a key to the Central Services Office and the code for the alarm system.

    Represents JCL: At both professional and community meetings. Collaborates with  JCL management team, serves as chair for Youth Services committee.

    Summary: The Library Services & Outreach Coordinator will lead the collaborative development and delivery of library outreach and outreach tools. The incumbent will advocate for an exceptional patron experience on all platforms across the Libraries’ services and resources for the community, and coordinate activities to assess trends and the needs of a broad user community. In addition, the coordinator will act as the library’s accessibility coordinator, which entails working directly with users to understand and fulfill accommodation needs; representing the library's initiatives; and helping to ensure that accessibility factors are incorporated into library systems and planning.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Supervising library services of the JCL system:

    • Outreach - 35%
      • Identifies services for those who are infrequent users and for those who are traditionally underserved
      • Provides equitable delivery of services to all people through the development of programs, policies, practices, and behaviors which make the library available to all people
      • Represents the library at professional and community meetings
      • Facilitates partnerships with other community organizations
      • Collaborates with schools, community organizations, and local institutions to expand the library's reach and impact
      • Engages with the community through outreach activities, attending local events, and participating in community fairs to promote our services
    • Services- 35%
      • Identifies and administers programming opportunities at all branches for all patron groups (i.e.: children, teen, adult, senior, homeschool, workforce, technology, genealogy, etc.) 
      • Writes and administers grants to enhance library services and programs
      • Identifies potential new revenue sources
      • Act as the library’s accessibility coordinator, which entails working directly with users to understand and fulfill accommodation needs; and helping to ensure that accessibility factors are incorporated into library systems and planning
    • Record keeping - 10%
      • Maintains reports, profiles, and policies as necessary
      • Take minutes for the Jefferson County Library Board meetings
      • Responsible for keeping documentation on LISA and JCL website current
    • Administrative - 20%
      • Member of the Management Team and chairs or participates on other committees as assigned
      • Participates in the revision of JCL guidelines, procedures, policies, and planning documents
      • Acts as liaison for troubleshooting problems with multiple vendors (i.e.: ILS, hotspots, databases)
      • Identifies and promotes system wide staff training opportunities
      • All other duties as assigned  


    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is desired
    • Previous experience in public relations, or event planning, preferably in a community-oriented setting
    • Experience with program evaluation and statistical analysis
    • Experience in data management and/or knowledge management
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills; experience leading project teams; ability to work independently and as a member of a team
    • Ability to present complicated information in easily comprehensible formats, e.g. data visualization, appropriate use of charts, etc.
    • Creativity and the ability to think outside the box to develop innovative strategies and content
    • A passion for promoting literacy, learning, and community engagement
    • Experience organizing and scheduling work to meet deadlines and reporting requirements
    • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
    • Self-driven and stays on task
    • Must pass a criminal records check


    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to carry 15 lb. loads over 100 feet 
    • Ability to push a loaded book cart (approximately 50 lbs) a distance of 25 feet without stopping
    • Ability to stand for three-hour periods without sitting
    • Ability to use a step stool and to lift 2 lbs. overhead to a height of 7.5 ft. and to bend, stoop, kneel to floor
    • Ability to read 10 pt. type  
    • Ability to hear patrons in conversational voice at distance of 4 ft. and on the telephone
    • Ability to speak clearly and audibly to patrons standing at 4 ft. distance
    • Physical dexterity and ability to operate a computer keyboard, a telephone receiver and other office equipment


    Working Conditions:

    The Library Services & Outreach Coordinator is a full-time position (non-exempt FLSA). Weekend and/or evening hours may be required. Compensatory time must be given for all time worked over 40 hours in a week. Overtime requires advance approval from the Executive Director.
