Munson is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Library Director. This is a full time, on-site position, located in Utica, NY.
Job Summary
The Library Director at Munson manages the daily operation of the library, administering a comprehensive collection of educational materials in various formats, and cultivating a dynamic learning environment. Initiatives are tailored to the needs of Pratt Munson college students and Munson member patrons. This position strategically guides the allocation of library resources, fosters community engagement, and supports student success. Collaborating with divisions across Munson, and especially with Pratt Munson faculty and staff, the Library Director works to enrich library and instructional resources and services, supporting the educational goals of Pratt Munson students and Munson member patrons.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Direct the daily operations of the library by supervising Library Assistants and Work Study Students, managing facilities, budgeting and allocating resources, developing and refining collections, ensuring collection security, and remaining current with evolving technologies in the field of library services.
Anticipate, prioritize, and meet the needs of user groups for collections and services, including reference, research, and access to resources.
Develop, implement, or modify policies, long-range plans, goals and objectives as needed.
Provide in-person and digital reference and research assistance to patrons.
Develop and conduct instructional programs in online research and information literacy for Pratt Munson classes and one-on-one for patrons.
Assess the library's collection in alignment with the evolving curriculum of Pratt Munson and Museum of Art staff, and adapt future acquisitions to cater to emerging programs, academic needs, and Museum of Art collections.
Catalog and manage library inventory including books and other materials, maintaining accurate records, and updating cataloging databases and keywords to improve resource accessibility for all library patrons
Actively provide budget management by reviewing and preparing invoices for payment, review monthly budget statements for accuracy, and participate in budget preparation.
Promote the development and use of library resources and programs through cooperative agreements with Pratt Institute Libraries and other library consortia.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Organizational Service
The Library Director will serve on Munson intra-departmental committees, participate in Munson community events, attend Pratt Munson events, represent Munson in the community, and complete other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience
Proficiency in all aspects of library services, including circulation, reference, technical services, technology platforms, collection development and cataloging, and information literacy.
Demonstrated skill in planning, organizing, and implementing complex tasks with attention to detail, meeting goals and working within deadlines and budgets.
Excellent, clear, and effective communication skills, oral and in writing, with a variety of audiences.
A critical thinker who builds consensus and solves problems.
Ability to read budget reports and accurately prepare fiscal documents and forms.
An experienced team leader with exceptional interpersonal skills, and one who motivates and creates a positive and effective work environment.
Job Qualifications
Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited program
5 years’ experience-with preference for an academic, museum, or art-reference library-with increasing levels of responsibility
2 years of managerial experience required
Computer, Machine and Equipment Skills
Advanced personal computer skills that include the ability to send/receive e-mail messages, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform advanced word processing, bookkeeping, and/or data entry. Knowledge/use of computer, printer, photocopier, phone system, fax machine, and scanner. Requires experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and various software programs.
Compensation
$59,000 to $70,000 annually
