Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer service-focused individual to join our team as a Library Assistant with a Youth Services focus. The ideal candidate is responsible for front-line customer service to patrons in a fast-paced library environment. .
Duties include:
· Maintain patron confidentiality and respond to patron questions and situations in accordance with library policy and in a manner to enhance the reputation of the
library as a public service organization.
· Provide reference and readers’ advisory services to adults, young adults, and children in the selection and location of print and non-print information and materials.
· Provide one-on-one tech support on a variety of patron owned devices, while working to complete routine duties as assigned.
Library Circulation duties:
· Check materials in and out, run hold list, process and sort incoming and outgoing materials for delivery system-wide.
· Register new library cards and update patron accounts.
· Provide assistance and technical support to the public in the use of self-service resources, including the online catalog, electronic databases, the Internet, e-commerce, software applications, online registration, printers, fax machines, and photocopiers, other indexes, bibliographies, reference tools, checkout, and holds-pickup.
· Empty book drops.
· Clean circulating items and shelve materials.
· Receive and process new magazines.
· Restock beverages and snacks.
· Handle money at the Circulation Desk.
Requires strong customer service and technology skills, and ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively. Perform various tasks, including tracking statistical information, and replenishing materials for public distribution.
Must be professional, friendly, cooperative, comfortable with technology, and able to work independently. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented but also able to function well in a public-facing position.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of the Youth Services role:
· Plan and implement toddler, preschool, school age, and teen programming in coordination with other Youth Services Librarian, including the annual youth summer reading program.
· Responsible for planning and implementing two to three story-times per month.
· Provide outstanding internal and external customer service; demonstrate a positive attitude and support library goals and objectives.
· Assist in maintaining the library through shelf straightening, library webpage updates, creating bulletin boards and library displays, and shelf reading.
· Assume a community engagement mindset to develop and maintain effective relationships with schools, home-schoolers, and other community groups that target youth in order to plan and deliver programs and services that meet local needs and interests.
· Attend system level meetings as they relate to child and teen programming.
· May coordinate or assist with special events as applicable.
Physical Demands of the Position: Ability to meet the physical needs of the job which include but are not limited to:
· Sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, bend, twist and reach.
· Lift and carry 50 pounds or less.
· Handle processing, picking up and shelving books.
· Push and pull objects weighing 40 to 80 pounds on wheels.
· Visual demands require frequently viewing a computer monitor and reading documents and labels.
· Hearing demands require frequently listening to patrons on the telephone.
· Travel to meetings and programs outside of the library; provide own
transportation to said events
Preferred Qualifications:
· College degree in a related field preferred; high school diploma required.
· Experience working with children required.
· Technological proficiency and willingness to learn and stay current with emerging technology, including digital media, required.
· 2 years’ customer service experience required.
· Ability to communicate in a friendly and cooperative manner to staff and library visitors required.
· Previous library or education experience preferred.
· Programming experience preferred.
Marketing and social media experience preferred.
