The Gallison Memorial Library is seeking a creative outgoing individual for the part time position of Library Director. The ideal candidate needs a “can do” leadership philosophy that is cooperative and inclusive, as well as good computer skills. They must also have excellent written and verbal communication abilities with the Board, volunteers, and the public as this is a visible position at the library with significant public interaction. The Director is responsible for the overall day to day operations of the library including specific responsibilities such as budgeting, programming, scheduling volunteers, recommending policy adjustments to the Board, and working cooperatively within the community to further the library’s programs and services to meet community needs. Previous experience and knowledge in the library field is a definite plus.

Deadline: Open until position is filled.
Management: Manage and supervise library operations.
Supervisory: Exercise administrative direction over volunteers, contract and seasonal personnel, providing effective direction to assure the quality of public service.
Fiscal: Prepare the annual budget for Board review and approval. Make suggestions for maintenance, and improvement of the library’s facility and equipment. Coordinate library development and fund raising. Experience with, or willingness
to write grants would be a plus.
Collection Development: Update and manage library holdings. Strive to maintain a vibrant and current collection of
both print and non-print material. Manage the library’s online presence with the Maine Balsam Libraries consortium. In order to provide full service lending, ensure that interlibrary loan services are available and offered to all library patrons.
Program Development: Plan and implement library programs with the goal of engaging all ages and demographics
within the community. Collaborate with local agencies, schools, and town officials to foster community engagement and enrichment.
Communications and Data: Collect data and prepare a variety of reports including the Annual Report to the Maine State Library. Provide advice on library matters to the Board.
Training: Participate in training opportunities offered by the Maine State Library.
