Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Coordinates process to research, review, identify and procure new materials to develop the library's collection. Being a Library Services Manager performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Develops and oversees support, service, and technology resources to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, Library Services Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Library Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Library Services Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Status:                Non-Exempt, Union

     

    Union Affiliation:   HESPA

     

    Duration:             Ten (10) months; Two weeks prior to the first day of school and two weeks after the last day of school.

     

    Start Date:           August 7, 2023 (Training will occur before the end of the 2022/23 school year)

     

    SUMMARY:

    The Library Services Coordinator assists, supports and works closely with media specialist, teachers, administrators and other team members in providing educational benefits for students through quality library services.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

    • Assist with location and circulation of books, audio visual software, periodicals and reference materials.
    • Circulation of audio visual equipment.
    • Assist staff and students with proper use of Follett Destiny Library program.
    • Orient and guide students in library skills.
    • Assist students with independent study and research in the library and using the Internet for research including facilitating Internet access and use in library.
    • Process and input data for new materials and equipment, which includes:  books, audio visual software, CD’s, videos, computer programs, audio visual equipment, etc.
    • Assist with proctoring district and state assessments.
    • Research, create purchase orders and place orders.
    • Handle correspondence pertaining to the media center.
    • Mend library print materials including arranging for binding and repair of books.
    • Scan and shelve books and software including weeding of books and materials.
    • Order bulbs and install in audio visual equipment.
    • Laminate and maintain laminator.
    • Assist staff with troubleshooting:  copy machine, computers, digital camera, video camera, classroom amplification system, overhead projectors, cassette recorders, VCRs, etc.
    • Instruct staff in use of equipment.
    • Create reports:  circulation, inventory, and monthly circulation figures on books and audio visual software.
    • Coordinate repair of all audio visual equipment.
    • Generate overdue notices to students and teachers who have overdue materials.
    • Send letters and/or make telephone calls regarding long overdue, lost, or damaged books.
    • Keep a schedule of classes, computer labs and activities in the media center.
    • Conduct year-end inventory of books and materials in the media center.
    • Maintain a pleasant and orderly media center.
    • Prepare bulletin board in the media center.
    • Promote old and new materials through bulletin board, teacher meetings, displays, individual teachers.
    • Assist in school office as needed.
    • Assist with bi-yearly book fairs.
    • Assist with special library promotions and events.
    • Work closely with school photography company to schedule pictures for orientation, re-takes, and make-ups.
    • Distribute pictures to students.
    • Manage ID system for new and lost IDs.
    • Regular, predictable attendance.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Prior experience working with media services preferred.

    Successful completion of the HPS secretarial exam - PRIOR TO APPLICATION.

    High school diploma (or equivalent);  and must meet one of the following requirements:

    • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours); or
    • Obtain an Associate’s Degree (or higher); or
    • Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment:
      1. Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing and mathematics or
      2. Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.

    The State Board of Education has approved the following formal assessments by which a candidate may choose to demonstrate this knowledge:

    1. ETS ParaPro Assessment.  A passing score of 460 is required.       OR
    2. Michigan Test for Teacher Certification - Basic Skills (MTTC)  [http://www.mttc.nesinc.com/]  A passing score on the Basic Skills Test MTTC is required.        OR
    3. SAT (taken on or after March 5, 2016) - Scores on the following sections are required:
      • Evidence-based Reading & Writing - 480
      • Mathematics - 530     OR
    4. ACT (taken between January 1, 1989 and October 1, 2017) -  Scores on the following sections are required:
      • Reading - 22
      • Combined English/Writing - 22
      • Mathematics - 22        OR
    5. Michigan Merit Examination (MME) (taken between January 1, 2007 and January 31, 2015) - Scores on the following sections are required:
      • Reading - 1108
      • Writing - 1129
      • Mathematics - 1116    OR
    6. WorkKeys (taken before June 1, 2017)  - Scores on the following sections are required:
      • Reading for Information (Level 4 minimum),
      • Applied Mathematics (Level 4 minimum) and
      • Writing (Level 3 minimum) BEFORE June 1, 2017 will still meet the state requirements.  

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, students, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.
    • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure consistent with the duties of this position.
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations consistent with the duties of this position.

     

    REASONING ABILITY:

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this position.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

    • Must know how to operate and maintain:  Copy machines, riso machines, poster maker, laminator, binding machines, Ellison machine, TV/VCR/DVD, cassette players, overhead projectors, video cameras, digital camera, broadcasting system, phones, computers, etc.
