• Creates a welcoming environment by greeting every patron warmly and giving excellent customer service.
• Prepares and implements library programming for all ages and diverse backgrounds based on the needs of the community.
• Ascertains patron information needs and delivers results.
• Assists patrons with technology and self-service options.
• Engages in meaningful conversations with patrons about library services, products and events.
• Manages patron accounts and provides access to library materials.
• Stays up-to-date with library technology, policies, and procedures.
• Evaluates patron needs and develops the tool and services to meet those needs.
• Selects and evaluates library materials in all formats, in specific subject areas.
• Helps maintain a neat and tidy public space.
• Helps with library outreach in the community.
• Develops partnerships and relationships with other city departments and area organizations.
• Participates in library PR & Marketing efforts.
• Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the library.
• As part of a dynamic library team, shares ideas including at department or committee meetings.

Qualifications

Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association library school; professional experience in the areas of information services and materials selection preferred; knowledge of public libraries preferred. Certification with the State Library of Iowa required upon employment and must retain throughout employment.
