Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Coordinates process to research, review, identify and procure new materials to develop the library's collection. Being a Library Services Manager performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Develops and oversees support, service, and technology resources to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, Library Services Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Library Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Essential Functions:
The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the

Provides excellent customer service
Develop, promote, implement, and evaluate innovative programs and services for
children, teens, and their caregivers that meet Library goals and interests of the
community
Establishes and maintains positive effective relationships with schools, community
organizations, and the general public through local outreach
Orders collection materials and other library supplies for purchase, taking into
consideration priority needs and budget limitations; reviews collections to develop or
discard/discontinue as needed; evaluates and/or selects resources for delivery in the
most appropriate format
Reference and readers’ advisory
Coordinate and supervise teen volunteers
Develop and instruct the public and staff in the effective use of library resources and
emerging technologies in a variety settings, including one-on-one, small groups, and
user guides
Prepares clear, accurate and informative narrative and statistical reports
Keeps informed of current trends, technology, and developments affecting library
services through professional reading, continuing education opportunities, and
participation in professional organizations. Attends workshops, conferences, and
training as needed
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited institution. A NJ Professional Librarian Certificate
issued by the State of New Jersey or demonstrated ability to obtain one within three
months of hire.
Knowledge of current trends in youth librarianship and demonstrated experience using
technology and digital resources. Excellent customer service and communication skills
are essential.

sitting, standing, and walking; occasional bending, reaching, and stooping; lifting and

distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes; distance vision sufficient to
distinguish people or objects under a variety of light conditions; vision sufficient to view
computer screens and spine labels under a variety of light conditions.
