Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Coordinates process to research, review, identify and procure new materials to develop the library's collection. Being a Library Services Manager performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Develops and oversees support, service, and technology resources to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, Library Services Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Library Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Library Services Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     20 HOURS PER WEEK 
     OPENS: Monday, March 4, 2024 
    CLOSES: Position is open until filled with applications reviewed on receipt and may close at any time.  
    ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $14.25 - $15.50 per hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System 
    PLEASE NOTE: All positions at Cochise County require a post offer pre-employment background screening


    Under general supervision by the Cochise County Library District Director performs work of moderate difficulty in managing a remote branch library; performs related work as assigned.
     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class.

    (Illustrative Only) Performs standard library duties including but not limited to; automated circulation; resource-sharing with other libraries; customer assistance; promotion of services, book exchange; selection of new material; pulling old material; sorting mail; monitoring overdue books; shelf reading; filing; organizing programs for children and adults; collecting and reporting statistics; recruits, trains, assigns jobs; supervises volunteers; attends meetings and events pertaining to County Library District subjects; provides informal and formal training in computer and information literacy to general public, performs general office functions as required.An Associate’s Degree  in a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education; one (1) year of library experience and one (1) year of responsible office, classroom or customer service experience; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License and the ability to be covered by county insurance.
     
    An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Some knowledge of:
    • principles, practices and procedures of a branch library;
    • general office management practices and procedures;
    • principles and practices of volunteer supervision;
    • reader interests and standard library resources.
    Some skill in:
    • operating standard office equipment;
    • intermediate level Internet and computer searches;
    • customer service.
    Ability to:
    • learn and teach the use of the countywide library computer system;
    • implement and help revise library policies, practices and procedures;
    • set priorities and manage workflow for self and others;
    • act responsible and work independently with minimal direct supervision;
    • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public;
    • read, write and speak English;
    • follow written and verbal instruction;
    • communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls.
     
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
    Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, large motor skills, ability to communicate.
     
    Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force; frequently lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds requires a good deal of walking, standing or involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.

    Mental Application:  Utilizes memory for details and verbal instructions, requires emotional stability, critical thinking and adaptability; creative problem-solving skills are important.
