    1. Position Summary

    Responsible, under the Director of the Library, for a combination of technical services (cataloging and classification, serials management, systems management, automated information access, electronic databases, library web presence, preservation) and public services (reference, instruction, collection development, database searching, circulation, services to off campus and distance education students). Responsible for supervision of student workers and circulation staff.

    1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Technical services

    • Cataloging and classification of all library materials.
    • Serials management, including ordering, receiving, and updating serials database.
    • Supervision of staff performing catalog classification and maintenance tasks, book processing, serials processing, reserves processing.
    • Interlibrary loan.
    • Management and maintenance of library catalog system and modules, including software and hardware upgrades. Integrity of library computer databases.
    • Management and maintenance of hardware and software used in the library, including computers and web products.
    • Management and maintenance of library web presence.
    • Liaison between library and database vendors.
    • Preservation of library materials.

     

    Public services

    • Instruction and assistance to students, faculty, and staff in use of library resources.
    • Services to off-campus and distance education students.
    • Collection development in the areas of Humanities, Arts and Design, Behavioral Sciences and Education, Business and Communication, Science and Mathematics, Nursing and Health Professions, Hawaiian/Pacific as assigned, including material selection in all formats, evaluation and deselection.
    • Database searching.
    • Circulation services, including reserves.
    • Preparation of research guides and tutorials.

    1. Education and Experience

    Minimum 

    MLS from an American Library Association accredited institution.  

     

    Preferred

                Appropriate experience in technical and public services in academic libraries.

     

    1. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
    • Organized with meticulous attention to detail.
    • Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources.
    • Ability to meet deadlines.
    • Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality.
    • High integrity and ethical standards.
    • Strong public service commitment.

     

    1. Physical Requirements

    Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills.  Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

     

    1. Other Requirements
    • This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required.  Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required
    • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
    • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
