Performs a critical role of coordinating workflows within the assigned laboratory(ies) with various department managers. Spearheads preparing documents and handling customer communications related to laboratory work in support of national business objectives. Additionally, develops and maintains tracking systems to ensure samples are received and processed appropriately by laboratory(ies). This includes confirming orders match proposals, invoices match reports, reports are delivered on time, and many other documentation aspects of coordinating efforts with internal and external stakeholders. Oversee operations at one or more physical lab locations as appropriate. May also serve as a Laboratory Manager with appropriate qualifications and experience. Provides technical support for advanced testing projects requiring significant experience or specialized knowledge; supports regional Operations Managers and staff in preparing and providing proposals, test plans, reports, client support, and regulatory agency communication. Essential Functions * Operate Business Administration for assigned laboratory(ies) * Provide general business leadership within the organization. * Manage, mentor, and develop staff for continued growth. * Provide quotes or pricing support to internal and external customers. * Review pricing, methodology, and sample counts with proposed scope. * Monitor laboratory performance in regard to report turnaround and significant quality issues. * Review and approve laboratory invoices, timesheets, other business functions. * Assist with report reviews and delivery as appropriate. * Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned. Supervisor Responsibilities Supervisor responsibilities: Supervises staff, including hiring, scheduling, and assigning work, reviewing performance, and recommends salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations. Manages others through subordinate supervisors. Laboratory Director 2 Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree and 10 years Laboratory Management experience * Minimum 3 years of experience in managing documentation, ideally in a laboratory environment. * Basic knowledge of industry applied methodology, common approaches, and laboratory requirements. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * General knowledge of chemistry and lab operations; ability to properly review data and reports for the various methods used. * Management skills: ability to lead a team and provide training and guidance. * Excellent skill level in Microsoft Office programs, including Work, Excel, and Outlook. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both with internal customers and external vendors. * Professional behavior and appearance. * Ability to travel to alternate Lab locations periodically if appropriate. * Ability to be organized and attention to detail. * Ability to prioritize and multi-task, follow up on pending issues, meet deadlines and work independently. * Ability to accurately read, write, and interpret laboratory documents. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting with constant sitting and occasional standing and possible light lifting. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods and the use of hands to finger is common.
