Lineman constructs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground transmission lines. Performs site preparation tasks, including digging holes or trenches, installing anchors, climbing poles, and using equipment like digger derricks, aerial lifts, pulling and tensioning equipment, forklifts, and dump trucks. Being a Lineman installs wire and cable. Follows all safety regulations and procedures. Additionally, Lineman work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid Driver's License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Lineman works under moderate supervision. Build, maintain and repair systems for the utilization and distribution of electrical energy.

Install and maintain electrical distribution systems area wide.
Prepare reports and maintain logs of activities as required and requested.
Climb utility poles and towers to perform maintenance and repairs.
Trouble-shoot distribution systems and corrects problems.
Maintain a balanced power load.
Travel to villages to perform services.
Comply with all safety standards and regulations.
Respond to emergency calls, 24-hours a day.
Supervise the contractor's work to ensure North Slope Borough Standards for Village Power Grid System.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.
Working knowledge of the safe practice and procedures utilized maintaining energized circuits up to 7,200 / 12,400 volts.
Ability to work at 60-foot heights.
High school graduate or G.E.D/ or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
State of Alaska Lineman Journeyman Certificate of Fitness;
Four years training under an approved apprentice line program;
Ability to obtain an Alaska Commercial Driver's license that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria within 30 days.
