  • SUMMARY:

    A skilled and well-trained individual who can analyze risk and decision a loan with quick turnaround time. Evaluates risk presented by the entire loan application. Understands and implements the Credit Union’s lending guidelines by applying a detailed and commonsense approach to grow a safe and sound lending portfolio. The underwriter will follow policies, procedures, and applicable compliance laws and regulations for both consumer and mortgage lending. The underwriter will effectively communicate loan decisions and requirements to the loan processor.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Consumer Loans:

    · Review all direct and indirect consumer loan applications.

    · Analyze risk factors, review credit, income, employment, collateral and supporting documentation to determine credit worthiness.

    · Work with Loan Originators and make recommendations to maximize member loan potential.

    · Make recommendations or alternative options to Loan Originator on ways to communicate and help members that are denied a loan, to possibly secure a loan in the future.

    · Interact with Loan Processors to maintain an efficient loan application flow.

    · Maintain positive relationships by interacting with auto dealerships to maximize auto loan potential while minimizing risk.

    · Calculate debt-to-income ratios on loan applicants and calculate how much of a loan applicant’s debt is secured or unsecured.

    Mortgages:

    · Review and analyze the accuracy of submitted loan file documentation – including credit, income, employment, assets, subject property, LTV, ratios, loan terms, appraisals, title work, tax reports, hazard and flood insurance, and documentation required for properties vested to trusts.

    · Review loan files against relevant guidelines to identify missing documentation and to generate a condition list for the loan processor.

    · Review and clear all conditions prior to submitting to closing.

    · Calculate debt-to-income ratios on loan applicants and calculate how much of a loan applicant’s debt is for house payment and their overall monthly debt-to-income.

    Other:

    · Other duties as required or assigned.

    · Review and discuss loan delinquencies as needed to establish if occurrences could have been prevented and make aware for future lending decisions.

    · Keep informed and up to date on new lending practices, loan policies and procedures.

    · Basic understanding of Compliance and Regulatory requirements.

    PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Assist in attaining the lending goals and objectives of the Credit Union. Professional approach to assessing the credit needs of members. Professional appearance and attitude as well as the ability to communicate effectively with members and staff.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    · Knowledge of all Associated School Employees Credit Union products and services.

    · Knowledge of the financial services industry.

    · Knowledge of all Credit Union lending policies and procedures.

    · Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations concerning loan policies and procedures.

    · Skill is effective oral and written communication.

    · Ability to use PC and computer systems (Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office products, XP2, Crystal Reports, Cyberquery, Nautilus).

    · Ability to perform mathematical functions and computations.

    · Ability to receive and maintain confidential information.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor’s degree or two years or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

    · Mortgage Loan Originator – Registered NMLS

    · SAFE Act Certification
