Materials Director directs operations and planning to optimize the flow of raw materials, supplies, and equipment from initial procurement to the final disposition and fulfill material requirements for volume, cost, and scheduling business operations. Estimates material requirements using data and analysis of orders, inventory levels, economic trends, and supplier sources to develop long-range plans to ensure the required flow of materials. Being a Materials Director coordinates procurement, warehouse, and distribution operations to improve operational efficiencies and workflows crucial to the flow of materials. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Materials Director typically reports to a director. The Materials Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Materials Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     The Materials Developer will support the apparel categories long range business plans by sourcing, developing, and presenting core and seasonal raw materials, fibers, yarns, coatings and or finishes appropriate to brand requirements. This role will collaborate with Brand, Design, Development and Sourcing and suppliers to ensure materials meet target margins, aesthetics, performance, quality and on-time delivery.

    Essential Job Functions:

    · Identify suitable sources for new material development and ensure material sourcing strategy aligns with apparel factory sourcing strategy.

    · Research and drive fabric, trim, and related technology innovation projects and ensure their successful technical implementation.

    · Lead and participate in cross-functional discussions related to materials topics, steer the material selection process and drive material consolidation to improve overall efficiencies.

    · Partner with Developers on building T&A calendars to ensure fabric and trim lead-times are represented

    · Maintain fabric and trim physical libraries, maintain electronic records in Texbase system

    · Oversee maintenance of Peak Apparel and Accessories Quality Assurance Manual which outlines requirements to ensure all fabrics, trims, garments and accessories meet Peak and specific sport performance standards, compliance, and protocols.

    · Oversees third party testing of all materials and apparel and troubleshoots any QC issues.

    · In collaboration with Design and Development, oversee fabric color approval process, including lab dips and production fabric lots.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree with 3-5 years of experience in development or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Prior experience with fabric development, especially performance knits.
    • Strong understanding of garment construction and manufacturing processes.
    • Strong understanding of costing and prior experience analyzing factory cost sheets.
    • Prior experience working with offshore vendors.
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
    • Must have knowledge of the sporting goods/performance apparel industry.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Illustrator.
    • Must possess ability to share ideas and keep team informed, actively listen, and receive feedback.
    • Ability to see the big picture while managing numerous details
