Mechanical Engineer designs, develops, prototypes, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Develops specifications for new parts or prototypes. Being a Mechanical Engineer identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products. Uses CAD software and other design and modeling tools to develop and improve parts and products. Additionally, Mechanical Engineer conducts analysis and tests to determine weaknesses and failures in prototypes or products. Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Mechanical Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and evaluation of hardware to support the development and sustainment of products for aerospace, medical and industrial applications. This engineer is a quick-learner with classroom or professional experience in at least some of the following categories: CAD layout, FEA, gear design, configuration controls and structural dynamics. 

    Requirements

         

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Provides imaginative, thorough, practical solutions to a wide range of complex designs or re-designs of existing programs.
    • Provides input to solving interface problems between engineering and other functions of the organization.
    • Executes work assignments where several of the engineering disciplines are required to achieve results.
    • Provides technical expertise to less experienced design engineers. 
    • Enlist commitment of people in other groups and establish a coordinated, focused, effort toward results.
    • May be the technical leader and/or responsible for project/process planning; makes substantial contributions to determining feasibility of goals/objectives.
    • Manages projects that require moderate integration of other employee’s efforts.
    • Ensures project goals, schedule, and cost targets are met.
    • Contributes to the definition and design of products/processes that meet desired applications.
    • Frequent inter-organizational and/or outside customer contacts.
    • May oversee the testing of engineering prototypes.
    • Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical problems associated with specific projects.
    • Maintain revision control of models, drawings and documents.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other related discipline.
    • Minimum 3-5 years related experience

     

    Minimum Competencies:

    • Capable of selection and wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in mechanical engineering.
    • Gear and Thermal Analysis.
    • Seasoned knowledge of manufacturing requirements and demonstrated ability to incorporate those requirements into product design/process.
    • Knows the business, understands the technology, and can offer competitive solutions to customers.
    • Openly shares responsibility for the effect of technical decisions/judgments on program schedules or goals critical to the organization with other high-level engineers and managers.
    • Ability to interact effectively with representatives of customers, marketing, and sales force to establish market needs and product/process definition.
    • Remains current on field of expertise and technological direction. 
    • Ability to manage technical risk.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Clutches and brakes experience desired.
    • Aerospace actuators experience desired.
    • Experience with Statistical Quality Control and Inspection techniques.
    • Familiarity with ISO 9000 or AS9100 practices.
    • Experience in a Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering environment.
    • FMEA analysis experiences desired.
    • Experience with Six Sigma
