Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical records. Being a Medical Assistant prepares treatment rooms for the examination of patients. May draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Additionally, Medical Assistant may perform administrative duties such as ordering supplies, answering the phone, and scheduling appointments. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RCA) certification. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Medical Assistant works under moderate supervision. External candidates who have not worked within the UVMHN in the past year are eligible for a one-time sign-on bonus of $2,000 gross. The bonus will be paid out at $500.00 following the completion of a successful 90 day orientation; the second installment of $1,500 will be paid upon completion of one year of satisfactory service in the same department.
This position assists with the daily activities of a clinical site and facilitates the flow of patients by providing clerical and clinical health care support to patients and family under the direction of a provider. The position requires mastery of basic clinical activities and some advanced clinical activities.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational training in a relevant area preferred. CPR certification required.
EXPERIENCE:
One year experience providing or assisting in direct patient care required.
