Medical Librarian Assistant assists the librarian and users with the operations of a medical library. Helps with computer searches, inter-library loans, cataloging, circulation, general reference and questions about library services. Being a Medical Librarian Assistant organizes and shelves materials and prepares new materials for circulation. May perform data entry to update library systems. Additionally, Medical Librarian Assistant may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Librarian Assistant works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. Job Description :
The Librarian position is directly accountable to the Director, Learning Resources and Library Services for the following duties and responsibilities.
The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive role in helping the College change as necessary to effectively carry out its mission.
Primary ResponsibilitiesWorks as a team member with the reference staff for the efficient operation of information services in the subject areas.
Provides assistance to students, faculty and other users in locating information and answering questions concerning the Learning and Library resources.
Maintains familiarity with holdings of the Library and learns how to use Reference tools such as indexes.Maintains familiarity with other academic services within the Learning Commons / Library building and is able to provide informational support for some of these services.
Maintains regular hours staffing the Reference Desk.Participates in the Library Orientation program by teaching bibliographic instruction classes and conducting library tours.
Prepares bibliographies and other aids for library users especially in the baccalaureate programs. Monitors the production of handouts and library instruction materials according to established procedures.
Opens or closes and secures the Library Commons / Library building, as scheduled.Records appropriate information to support public service activities and maintain records of all transactions.Secondary Responsibilities
Researches instructional assignments to verify adequate information is available.Shelves books, reads shelves, sends damaged books to cataloging for repair as necessary.
Resolves patron complaints whenever possible before directing them to immediate supervisor.Assists in preparing books to be discarded and assists in annual inventory.
Cooperates as a team member with the Academic Staff and Library staff in performing any duty essential to efficient operation and responsive public service.
Performs such other duties and services as may be assigned or requested by the Director, Learning Resources and Library Services.Requirements :
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related field from a higher education institution with regional accreditation with a strong preference for a school that has A.
L.A. accreditation.Minimum of one year library experience, preferably professional experience in a higher education setting that includes reference or bibliographic instruction.
Experience with reference in a college setting is highly desirable.Demonstrated experience with current reference method and materials.
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.Preferred Qualifications
Additional professional library experience in a community and patron centered environment is highly desirable. Experience in using LINCC, OCLC, or other web-based system is highly desirable.
Master's Degree in Library Science from a higher education institution with regional accreditation is required with a strong preference for a school that has A.
L.A accreditation.Minimum of two years library experience, preferably professional experience in a higher education setting that includes reference or bibliographic instruction.
Experience with reference in a college setting is highly desirable.
