Medical Librarian (MLS) provides guidance and assistance to users researching medical information using database searches, inter-library loans, and other resources. Ensures the cataloging and circulation of materials are performed efficiently and correctly according to policies and standards. Being a Medical Librarian (MLS) creates training materials and delivers library instruction and education programs for physicians and other staff. Leads or contributes ideas for library strategic planning, quality initiatives, and the development of digital media and educational resources. Additionally, Medical Librarian (MLS) maintains current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Medical Librarian (MLS) occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     The Cliffdale Regional Branch is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to fill the role of Senior Librarian Branch Manager. This position entails the execution of complex library duties, including the administration of the Cliffdale Regional Library. The incumbent will play a key role in overseeing diverse services, encompassing Information and Outreach Services, Youth Services, Circulation Services, and Paging. 
    • Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates, department managers, and branch staff to ensure policies and procedures are followed and library goals are met
    • Maintains a collaborative relationship between regional and community branches; schedules regional staff to assist community locations during staff shortages
    • May be responsible for materials selection for the entire Library system
    • Compiles, prepares, and maintains essential reports, records, and statistics
    • Chairs task forces and/or ongoing committees, and oversees special projects as assigned; e.g. grant-writing
    • Discusses with supervisor work methods, problems 
    • Formulates/Develops short and long-range developments and/or plans
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in library science
    and three and a half (3½) years of professional library experience to include two (2) years of supervisory experience in a library setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.  If your driver’s license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire.
     
    Negative drug screen and background check are required.
    • Knowledge of principles, practices and methods of public services in modern public libraries, including thorough knowledge of principles and methods of supervision
    • Knowledge of collection development principles and practices in a public library setting
    • Ability to interpret and explain an extensive variety of data and information and deal with abstract and concrete variables. Ability to analyze statistical data
    • Ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and administer library policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of public library automation systems and technology. High Level of Computer literacy
    • Ability to organize, train, and oversee the work of a group of professional, paraprofessional and clerical subordinates in the activities of the library and to use good judgment in communication and maintaining effective working relationships
    • Ability to communicate tactfully with the public and staff and to relate library services to the needs of the community in an effective manner
    • Ability to manage project timelines, resources, staff with little direction.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or government regulations
    • Ability to make quick decisions and handle emergencies
    • Ability to address criticism, answer questions and mitigate customer disputes with tact and diplomacy
    • Ability to treat people with respect, work with integrity, and uphold organizational values
    • Ability to express ideas effectively orally and in writing
    • Ability to work cooperatively as a team leader or member
    • Ability to understand and monitor budgets
