Medical Technologist - Microbiology jobs in Idaho

Medical Technologist - Microbiology performs a variety of microbiological procedures in order to cultivate, isolate and identify microorganisms in skin scrapings, exudates, body fluids and surgical specimens. Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures, including virological, mycological, bacteriological, and parasitological assays for use in diagnosing and treating disease. Being a Medical Technologist - Microbiology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in microbiological analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Microbiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Microbiology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.     • Ensure specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
    • Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
    • Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
    • Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
    • Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results.
    • Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students or interns including lectures and bench techniques.
    • Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
    • Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.  
    • Responsible for other duties as assigned.
    • Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.         
    • Promotes consensus building and applies techniques of conflict resolution and conduct improvement.  
    • Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
    • Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory.

    Qualifications

    Job Requirements

    • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical or biological science 
    • Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles

    Preferred Job Requirements

    • ASCP or equivalent. Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.   
    • Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory
    • Prior Microbiology experience
