Medical Technologist - Microbiology jobs in Ohio

Medical Technologist - Microbiology performs a variety of microbiological procedures in order to cultivate, isolate and identify microorganisms in skin scrapings, exudates, body fluids and surgical specimens. Conducts routine and specialized microbiological procedures, including virological, mycological, bacteriological, and parasitological assays for use in diagnosing and treating disease. Being a Medical Technologist - Microbiology verifies accuracy of findings, identifies test inconsistencies, and takes appropriate action to make corrections and resolve problems. Operates, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment used in microbiological analysis and procedures. Additionally, Medical Technologist - Microbiology requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires an American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or its equivalent. May require a state license to practice. Medical Technologist - Microbiology's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.     Our Central Laboratory activities are growing rapidly, and we are currently looking to add to our team. The Medical Technologist will act as a leader in establishing microbiology capabilities and direct research and development within the laboratory. You will aid in the development and growth of the microbiology department and will oversee the implementation of new microbiology technologies and instrument platforms in the lab. The ideal candidate will have strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. This position will be a full-time position in Cincinnati, OH.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform low, moderate, and high-complexity testing
    • Train on state-of-the-art instrumentation to learn maintenance and troubleshooting skills
    • Evaluate and interpret quality control and testing results
    • Problem solve and work alongside our team of Medical Laboratory Scientists and Central Laboratory Scientist to develop and validate new microbiology testing in our expanding laboratory
    • Strictly adhere to safety procedures

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s degree with MT, MLS, or CLS (ASCP) certification, or certification eligible; or
    • Bachelor's degree with MLT(ASCP) certification or certification-eligible

    Preferred

    • Have at least 4 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing within the specialty of microbiology with a minimum 6 months experience in high complexity testing within the subspecialty of bacteriology.
